Senior Accountant

Job Description

Salary: $75,000–$85,000 annually, based on experience

Gurtler Industries is looking for a hands-on Senior Accountant who takes pride in accurate work, follows through on commitments, and brings a positive, collaborative approach to the team. In this role, you’ll contribute to general ledger accounting, month-end close, and financial reporting while working closely with accounting colleagues and leadership. You’ll also participate in projects that strengthen processes and support the financial health of the business.

What You’ll Do:

• Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
\n
• Support monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, completing assigned responsibilities accurately and on time.
\n
• Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, including balance sheet and income statement activity.
\n
• Assist with financial reporting and investigate variances to help explain business results.
\n
• Support compliance with GAAP and established internal controls.
\n
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and participate in related projects.
\n
• Assist with budgeting, audit preparation, and sales tax compliance.
\n
• Communicate questions, discrepancies, and potential issues promptly and help work toward solutions.
\n

What We're Looking For:

• A bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
\n
• At least five years of progressive accounting experience.
\n
• Strong hands-on experience with general ledger accounting, month-end close, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
\n
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience using ERP systems.
\n
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to organize work around competing deadlines.
\n
• A proactive approach: you ask thoughtful questions, investigate discrepancies, and follow tasks through to completion.
\n
• A positive, professional attitude and a willingness to share knowledge, support colleagues, and receive feedback.
\n
• Manufacturing or distribution accounting experience is a plus.
\n

Work Location: This position is fully onsite in South Holland, Illinois.
