Program Manager - Impact, Data, and Evaluation Academy (IDEA)

Position Overview The Program Manager – Impact, Data, and Evaluation Academy (IDEA) is a permanent, full‑time role within the UNC Charlotte Urban Institute. The position serves as principal investigator and lead of IDEA, conducting community‑based research and translating findings through reports, articles, and data visualizations to support the Institute’s public service mission. Responsibilities The incumbent will develop, conduct, and translate applied research with staff, faculty, and community partners; lead multi‑project teams; plan and manage research projects from conception to dissemination; identify funding opportunities and prepare grant proposals; and mentor junior staff and students. Key activities include project planning and administration, data collection and management, statistical and qualitative analysis, data visualization, and preparation of publications and reports. Required Qualifications Minimum education and experience: A PhD with 3–5 years of experience or a Master’s degree with 5–8 years of post‑graduate experience leading and conducting social‑science projects. A PhD or Master’s degree in urban planning, sociology, social work, public health, education, geography, public policy, or another social‑science field. Preferred Qualifications Substantive knowledge of education, housing & homelessness, public health, youth development, workforce & economic development, urban & regional planning, public policy, public administration, or social welfare, especially within the Charlotte region. Experience maintaining relationships with community partners in the Charlotte area. Methodological expertise in rigorous formative and substantive evaluations, participatory processes, advanced qualitative and quantitative techniques, data visualization, and spatial analysis. Proficiency with statistical software (e.g., SAS, SPSS, R, STATA) and data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, R Shiny). Strong organizational, oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
