Assistant UnderwriterThe Assistant Underwriter will support the underwriting team in delivering Berkley Specialty Property's business plan through a combination of underwriting support, technical processing, and operational oversight. The role focuses on assisting Underwriters with risk assessment, pricing and pre-bind activity, while ensuring high-quality data, efficient processing, and effective use of offshore support.Underwriting Support & Risk AssessmentSupport the assessment of new and renewal business within agreed underwriting guidelinesAssist with pricing and rating using approved tools and modelsPrepare pre-bind documentation, including quotes, summaries and underwriting packsEnsure submission data is complete and accurate to enable effective underwriting decisionsMonitor pipelines, renewals and outstanding items, proactively following up with brokers and UnderwritersSupport Underwriters in broker interactions, including meeting preparation and follow-upProduce management information, reporting and portfolio data to support underwriting activityOffshore Resource OversightProvide training and oversight of offshore resources responsible for administrative processingMonitor delivery to ensure completion within agreed service levels and quality standardsPerform quality assurance reviews on offshore output (e.g. data entry, document preparation)Act as the primary liaison between the underwriting team and offshore supportStakeholder & Team ContributionBuild effective working relationships with Underwriters, brokers and internal stakeholdersContribute to a collaborative team environment and actively participate in team discussionsSupport consistent service delivery aligned to Berkley Specialty standardsCompliance, Controls & GovernanceAdhere to all internal policies, underwriting authorities, and regulatory requirementsMaintain accurate audit trails and documentation standardsSupport underwriting control processes, including peer review, due diligence and data governanceTechnology & AIUtilise AI tools (e.g. Copilot) to improve efficiency, accuracy and quality of deliveryActively adopt new technologies and digital processes in day-to-day activitiesApply appropriate judgement, governance and data security awareness in the use of AIQualificationsPrevious experience in an underwriting support or insurance operations role preferredExposure to property underwriting or commercial insurance is advantageousStrong numerical, analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detailExperience using underwriting, rating or policy administration systems preferredProficient in Microsoft Office, particularly ExcelStrong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlinesEffective written and verbal communication skillsProactive, organised and able to work both independently and collaborativelyConduct Expectations:Demonstrates progressive development in the Property underwriting lifecycle and class of businessBuilds confidence in supporting underwriting activity and engaging effectively with brokers and stakeholdersApplies appropriate technical capability, including the use of underwriting systems, rating tools and ExcelConsistently operates within underwriting controls, governance frameworks and agreed protocolsTakes ownership of workload, delivering accurate outputs within agreed timelinesProactively identifies opportunities to improve processes, efficiency and data qualityCompletes all required professional, technical and behavioural trainingActs with integrity, professionalism and due skill, care and diligenceComplies with all internal policies, regulatory requirements and conduct standardsMaintains high standards of accuracy, accountability and data integrityBuilds effective working relationships and collaborates positively across teamsRepresents Berkley Specialty Property positively in all internal and external interactionsAdditional Company DetailsThe Company is an Equal Employment Opportunity Employer.Additional RequirementsWe do not accept any unsolicited resumes from external recruiting agencies or firms.
