Job Description
Access Control Systems Specialist
Company: Tetra
Location: Dallas, TX (On-Site Required)
Salary: $80,000–$105,000 annually, depending on experience
Employment Type : Full-Time
Industry : Low Voltage / Security Systems / Technology Integration
Department: Operations
About the Position
Tetra is seeking a highly skilled Senior Low Voltage Systems Integration Specialist to join our growing Operations team in North Richland Hills, TX. This is a hands-on technical position for an experienced professional who specializes in programming, configuring, integrating, and troubleshooting advanced low-voltage systems.
In this role, you will take ownership of preparing and testing systems before they are deployed to customer locations. You'll also serve as a senior technical resource for our field installation teams and clients, providing advanced remote support and resolving complex system challenges.
We are looking for someone who understands the complete picture of low-voltage technology, from hardware and software to networking, programming, and system integrations.
This is not a traditional IT helpdesk role. We need an experienced systems integration professional who can independently diagnose complex issues, develop reliable solutions, and help improve technical standards across our organization. If you enjoy working with advanced technology, solving challenging problems, and being the person others turn to for technical expertise, this could be an excellent opportunity for you.
Key Responsibilities
- Systems Programming, Configuration & Testing
- Configure, program, and thoroughly test low-voltage systems before installation.
- Pre-build and program access control panels, user credentials, permissions, and controller logic.
- Configure CCTV systems, IP cameras, video management systems (VMS), and recording equipment.
- Set up network infrastructure, including VLANs, managed switches, IP addressing, firewalls, and VPN connections.
- Program A/V processors, control systems, intercoms, and gate operator integrations.
- Integrate multiple technologies, including access control, surveillance, intercoms, fire alarm interfaces, and A/V systems.
- Install firmware updates, verify compatibility, and create system configuration backups.
- Perform bench testing and simulate real-world operating conditions to identify issues before deployment.
- Verify that all systems are fully programmed, functional, tested, and documented before leaving the office.
- Advanced Troubleshooting & Field Support
- Serve as the primary escalation point for complex technical issues encountered by field technicians.
- Provide real-time remote troubleshooting and technical support for installations throughout DFW, Austin, and San Antonio.
- Diagnose and resolve network conflicts, programming errors, hardware issues, and system integration failures.
- Access systems securely through VPNs and remote management platforms.
- Guide field technicians through troubleshooting processes to reduce downtime and unnecessary service calls.
- Identify recurring technical issues and implement solutions to prevent future problems.
- Collaborate with field leadership to improve troubleshooting skills and installation quality.
- Client Technical Support & System Optimization
- Provide advanced remote support to clients experiencing technical issues or requiring system adjustments.
- Modify access control permissions, system settings, and security workflows.
- Optimize video surveillance analytics, remote viewing capabilities, and recording configurations.
- Troubleshoot and fine-tune integrated audio/video and control systems.
- Perform system health checks, firmware updates, and remote diagnostics.
- Help clients maximize the capabilities and performance of their installed systems.
- Maintain a professional, solutions-focused approach when communicating with customers.
- Technical Documentation & Quality Control
- Develop and maintain detailed system documentation, including IP schemas, network maps, wiring diagrams, and programming records.
- Create and maintain configuration backups, firmware records, and integration diagrams.
- Document system architecture and troubleshooting procedures for future reference.
- Maintain secure protocols for storing and managing remote access credentials.
- Establish consistent programming and documentation standards.
- Ensure field technicians have the information needed to complete installations efficiently and accurately.
- Technical Training & Continuous Improvement
- Identify recurring installation issues involving wiring, equipment selection, programming, and system configuration.
- Provide technical guidance and coaching to field installation teams.
- Recommend training opportunities based on observed technical knowledge gaps.
- Work with Operations leadership to improve system reliability and technical performance.
- Stay current with manufacturer updates, new technologies, software releases, and industry best practices.
- Support ongoing improvements in installation efficiency, first-time fix rates, and service quality.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of professional experience in low-voltage systems integration, commercial security systems, or a closely related technical field.
- Advanced hands-on experience configuring and programming commercial access control systems.
- Strong knowledge of CCTV, IP cameras, and video management systems (VMS).
- Experience with network configuration, including TCP/IP, VLANs, DHCP, static IP addressing, managed switches, firewalls, and VPNs.
- Working knowledge of commercial A/V systems, control programming, and system integrations.
- Experience integrating access control, surveillance, intercom, and other low-voltage technologies.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and network schematics.
- Strong understanding of relay logic, hardware configurations, and system troubleshooting.
- Experience with software programming, firmware updates, and system configuration management.
- Proven ability to diagnose complex technical problems and implement effective solutions.
- Strong written communication and technical documentation skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and troubleshoot effectively under pressure.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with field technicians and Operations leadership.
- Must be able to work on-site in North Richland Hills, TX.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with enterprise-level access control and video surveillance platforms.
- Knowledge of commercial door hardware, including magnetic locks, electric strikes, and electrified trim.
- Understanding of fire alarm interfaces, emergency door release logic, and applicable life safety requirements.
- Experience with cloud-based and on-premises security system architecture.
- Familiarity with API integrations and multi-site system configurations.
- Experience with A/V signal flow, DSP programming, HDMI matrix systems, and networked A/V.
- Knowledge of Power over Ethernet (PoE), bandwidth calculations, and video storage requirements.
- Experience programming intercoms, gate operators, and integrated building security systems.
- Manufacturer certifications in access control, CCTV, networking, or A/V technologies.
- Previous experience mentoring technicians or serving as a senior technical support resource.
What We're Looking For
Our ideal candidate is a technically driven professional who takes pride in delivering reliable, high-quality systems.
You should be someone who:
- Takes ownership of technical challenges from start to finish.
- Enjoys solving complex problems and identifying root causes.
- Is proactive about preventing issues rather than simply reacting to them.
- Understands the importance of thorough testing and documentation.
- Communicates effectively with technicians, leadership, and customers.
- Enjoys helping others improve their technical skills.
- Stays current with new technologies and industry advancements.
- Maintains a positive, professional attitude when handling challenging situations.
What Success Looks Like
As our Senior Low Voltage Systems Integration Specialist, you will play an important role in improving the efficiency, reliability, and overall quality of our operations.
Success in this position includes:
- Ensuring systems are fully programmed and tested before deployment.
- Reducing field installation downtime and repeat service calls.
- Increasing first-time installation and repair success rates.
- Improving the quality and completeness of technical documentation.
- Resolving complex technical issues efficiently.
- Strengthening field technicians' troubleshooting capabilities.
- Improving customer satisfaction through reliable system performance.
Compensation & Incentives
- Annual Base Salary: $80,000–$105,000, based on experience and technical qualifications.
- Quarterly performance incentives may be available based on operational improvements, reduced service callbacks, documentation quality, and field performance.
