Job Description Job Summary: The Qualified Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Counselor provides person-centered, trauma-informed, and recovery-oriented counseling services to individuals experiencing substance use disorders. This role involves conducting biopsychosocial assessments, developing and reviewing individualized treatment plans, facilitating group and individual counseling sessions, and documenting participant progress in compliance with Missouri Department of Mental Health (DMH) and agency standards. General Accountabilities Conduct comprehensive biopsychosocial assessments for new participants to determine service needs and diagnostic impressions. Develop and implement individualized treatment plans in collaboration with participants, based on ASAM criteria and clinical evaluation. Facilitate individual, group, and family counseling sessions using evidence-based practices. Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including progress notes, treatment plan reviews, discharge summaries, and other required records in the electronic health record (EHR) system. Monitor and document participant progress toward treatment goals, modifying plans as necessary. Utilize trauma-informed approaches and motivational interviewing to support engagement and recovery. Coordinate care with external providers, probation/parole officers, family members, and other relevant stakeholders, when appropriate. Ensure all clinical activities are following DMH, HIPAA, and agency policies and procedures. Provide crisis intervention and support when needed, adhering to agency protocols. Participate in team meetings, clinical supervision, and training sessions to ensure continuous professional development. Maintain current knowledge of best practices, treatment modalities, and changes in SUD-related regulations and standards by attending minimum of 50 hours of training per year. Adhere to the professional code of ethics set by the Missouri Credentialing Board (MCB) and DMH. Perform other duties as assigned by the Clinical Supervisor or Program Director. Additional duties may be assigned as needed. Education, Certification & Experience Education: Associate degree in Chemical Dependency Counseling, Human Services, Psychology, or a related field. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a behavioral health field preferred. Certification: Must be certified or provisionally certified through the Missouri Credentialing Board (e.g., CADC, CRADC, or Provisional CADC/CRADC). Must be qualified under DMH guidelines to provide SUD treatment services. Experience: Minimum of 1-2 years of experience working with individuals with substance use disorders. Experience with co-occurring disorders preferred. Additional Requirements: Must pass a background check and drug screening. Must be able to maintain confidentiality and follow HIPAA regulations. Skills & Competencies Strong knowledge of substance use disorder treatment, ASAM criteria, and DSM-5 diagnostic criteria. Ability to engage participants from diverse backgrounds in a respectful and supportive manner. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Ability to document services thoroughly and on time in an electronic health record system. Familiarity with motivational interviewing, CBT, trauma-informed care, and other evidence-based practices. Excellent organizational, time management, and case coordination skills. Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Physical & Other Requirements Physical Stamina: The role may require prolonged periods of sitting, standing, walking, and being actively engaged with patients and employees during work and employee interactions. Lifting and Carrying: There may be occasional requirements to lift or carry lightweight equipment or materials, such as tools or paperwork. Manual Dexterity: The position may involve tasks that require the use of hands and fingers, such as typing, writing, and handling materials. Visual and Auditory Acuity: The may need to closely observe patients and accurately interpret verbal and non-verbal cues during calls or interviews. Mobility: The role may involve the ability to move freely within the facility to conduct interviews, attend meetings, and other office duties. Sensory Abilities: This position may require the ability to perceive and respond to environmental and situational factors that are relevant to patient interactions. #J-18808-Ljbffr
