Phlebotomist Representative I - Hospital Location: Portland, ME Schedule: Monday to Friday, 5:00 AM to 1:30 PM, with rotational weekends. Pay range: Minimum of $20.00 per hour. Represent the face of our company to patients within the hospital systems at Quest Diagnostics, both as part of routine health management and for insights into life‑defining health decisions. Draw quality blood samples while following established practices and procedures, explaining procedures to patients and maintaining an atmosphere of trust and confidence. Demonstrate Quest Leadership Behaviors with a focus on process excellence and sensitivity to confidentiality. Responsibilities Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection on patients of all age groups. Accurately label and process specimens according to laboratory protocol. Maintain cleanliness and organization of phlebotomy carts and work areas. Administer oral solutions such as Glucola according to established training. Perform data entry and specimen processing, including centrifuging, splitting, and freezing as required. Complete clerical duties such as inventory management and answering phones when needed. Read and comply with departmental policies, protocols and procedures; ensure all staff follow instructions. Observe infection control and safety protocols at all times. Maintain phlebotomy logs and temperature logs promptly. Manage data entry of patient registration, test orders, and standing orders accurately. Report required repairs and maintenance to Group Leader or Supervisor. Complete training courses and stay current with the latest phlebotomy techniques. Communicate effectively with patients, nursing staff, and lab personnel. Participate in special projects and teams. Rotate through inpatient, outpatient, physicians’ offices, and ED settings as scheduled. Assist with training new staff or students as needed. Stay up to date on company communications. Perform additional duties and responsibilities as needed. Qualifications Proficient phlebotomy skills, including pediatric, geriatric, and capillary collections. Flexible and available based on staffing needs; includes weekends, holidays, on‑call, and overtime. Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and clean driving record (if applicable). One year of phlebotomy experience preferred. Customer service and healthcare experience preferred. Keyboard/data entry experience. May also support pre‑analytical laboratory functions, depending on site operations. Physical and Mental Requirements Lift objects ranging from 1 to 25 pounds; objects over 41 pounds require assistance. Require long periods of sitting, standing, walking, and repetitive eye‑hand coordination. Use stairs and/or elevators to move between floors as required. Perform repetitive tasks with the dominant hand throughout the day. Position may require travel. Extensive use of phone and PC. Fine dexterity and steadiness with hands. Coordination for balancing, bending/kneeling, pushing/pulling, reaching, and twisting. Education High School Diploma or Equivalent. (Required) Preferred Technical Training or Professional Licensing Phlebotomy certification (required in certain states; preferred where applicable).
