Founding Design Engineer

Conductor lets you run a team of coding agents on your Mac. We launched a few months ago, and are now used by engineers at leading companies like Linear, Vercel, Notion, Stripe, and Y Combinator. One user told me:

A huge amount of my work now is wildly parallelized, in a way I’ve never had to worry about before. It’s been a while since a dev tool has changed my life [like Conductor did].

We’re on a mission to build the human interface to AI organizations. Our team is small but growing. Come join the co‑founders and jump into an exciting space where you can do the best work of your life. No AI experience needed, just some enthusiasm for the awesome alien power of LLMs.

About us

• Charlie and Jackson met eight years ago when we played ultimate frisbee together at Brown. Last year, we quit our jobs at Point72 and Netflix to start Conductor together.

• Our team is small, so there is a lot of room to grow!

• We ship unusually fast

• We’re backed by some of the best investors in the valley. We have plenty of money to keep the company running through rough patches.

• We work in person in our beautiful San Francisco office

About you

We’re looking for a design engineer who can help us create beautiful and intuitive interfaces for the next generation of IDEs. Someone who can do it all: an idea generator, an explorer, someone who can talk with users, design, prototype, and then help us build it.

You’re probably a good fit if:

• You like to move fast

• You care about craft and take pride in your work

• You have strong opinions about software

• You have startup experience

Compensation

Pay

Compared to similar companies at our stage, we aim to pay roughly median salary and 90th percentile equity.

We give out more stock than other companies because we hire less, and each employee can make an unusually large impact.

For exceptional talent, we’re happy to pay exceptional amounts, in cash and especially equity. If that’s you, please reach out.

Health care

• Health: Aetna PPO $500

• Dental: Guardian PPO 2000

• Vision: Guardian VSP Vision (Choice)

… and, most importantly, Real Health Care: sleep, nutrition, exercise, social support. We try to make Conductor a strongly positive influence on all those fronts.

Other

Whatever you need to be productive, we’ll help you get it. We trust our team with an extremely broad expense policy. More about our culture.

About the interview

Send us a short message answering one of these questions:

1. What’s your favorite piece of software, and what do you like about it?

2. What's something you're actively learning right now, either for work or just for fun? How are you going about it?

3. If you’ve used Conductor before: What was confusing? What would you like to change about it?

No need to write more than a few sentences. If you’re a human, we recommend you do not use AI—nearly always, we’d rather read human writing than AI writing . (Yes, we can tell the difference.)
