Controller | Construction / Project-Based Accounting

We are partnering with a growing, acquisitive organization to identify a Controller for a recently acquired business representing the company’s largest acquisition to date at approximately $115M.

This is a highly visible, hands-on leadership role for someone who understands the complexities of construction and project-based accounting and can step into an evolving environment, strengthen processes and controls, and help drive the integration of the business.

The ideal candidate will bring deep Percentage of Completion (POC) and WIP accounting expertise, strong people leadership skills, and experience driving meaningful change in a fast-paced organization.

What You’ll Do

• Lead the accounting and finance function for the business unit, partnering closely with the President and corporate finance leadership
\n
• Own the monthly close process, financial reporting, reconciliations, variance analysis, and operational reporting
\n
• Provide leadership around POC accounting, WIP schedules, job costing, project reviews, milestone billing, and project profitability
\n
• Partner with operational leaders to improve visibility into project performance, margins, forecasts, and financial results
\n
• Lead budgeting, forecasting, cash management, and treasury activities
\n
• Strengthen accounting processes, internal controls, and financial reporting in accordance with GAAP
\n
• Support the integration of a significant acquisition, including systems, processes, controls, and reporting
\n
• Identify and implement process improvements across accounting and operational finance
\n
• Lead, develop, and mentor the local accounting team
\n
• Work closely with leadership to drive change and establish greater discipline and consistency throughout the organization
\n

What We’re Looking For

\n
• Significant accounting leadership experience, ideally at the Controller level
\n
• Extensive hands-on POC and WIP accounting experience
\n
• Strong understanding of job costing, project accounting, revenue recognition, and construction/project -based financial reporting
\n
• Experience within construction, engineering, specialty contracting, or another multi-project environment
\n
• Prior acquisition integration experience strongly preferred
\n
• Proven success with process improvement and change management
\n
• Strong people leadership and team-development skills
\n
• Systems-savvy with ERP implementation or enhancement experience; StarBuilder experience is a plus
\n
• CPA and/or public accounting background preferred
\n
• Private equity-backed company experience is a plus
\n
• A hands-on, roll-up-your-sleeves mentality with the ability to operate effectively in an evolving environment
\n
• Willingness to work on-site and drive operational change quickly
\n
