Job Description

SHR Talent is partnering with a high-growth, multi-site healthcare organization in Nashville to identify a Controller . This is a highly visible leadership opportunity responsible for overseeing a large, multi-layered accounting organization within a complex and rapidly growing business.

Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer , this individual will work closely with executive leadership, operational leaders, FP&A, strategic finance, and business development.

\n

The ideal candidate will combine strong technical accounting expertise with exceptional leadership and relationship-management skills . This role requires someone who can operate strategically while remaining close enough to the details to drive accountability, improve processes, and successfully lead through continued growth and change.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead a large, multi-layered accounting organization, including senior-level accounting leaders and their respective teams.
\n
• Oversee accounting and financial reporting across a complex, multi-entity organization.
\n
• Lead the monthly close process and ensure timely and accurate financial reporting in accordance with GAAP.
\n
• Serve as a trusted advisor to the CFO and broader executive leadership team.
\n
• Build, develop, and mentor accounting leadership while establishing clear expectations and accountability throughout the organization.
\n
• Partner with operational and business leaders to address financial and accounting matters.
\n
• Collaborate with accounting, FP&A, strategic finance, operations, and business development to support organizational growth.
\n
• Lead accounting activities associated with acquisitions and integrations.
\n
• Drive standardization, automation, and scalability across accounting processes and reporting.
\n
• Develop and maintain appropriate accounting policies, procedures, internal controls, and balance sheet reconciliation processes.
\n
• Partner with finance leadership on complex and technical accounting matters.
\n
• Support acquisition evaluation, opening balance sheet assessments, and acquisition accounting.
\n
• Participate in ERP and financial systems optimization and integration initiatives.
\n
• Identify opportunities to improve the efficiency, consistency, and scalability of the accounting function.

Candidate Profile

\n

\n
• 15+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience with significant leadership responsibility.
\n
• Demonstrated experience leading large, multi-layered accounting teams through periods of growth and change.
\n
• Strong command of U.S. GAAP and experience addressing complex accounting matters.
\n
• Experience within a multi-entity, decentralized, or highly complex operating environment strongly preferred.
\n
• Healthcare experience preferred but not required.
\n
• Prior Big Four or large regional public accounting experience strongly preferred.
\n
• Experience supporting acquisitions, integrations, and rapidly growing organizations highly desirable.
\n
• Strong executive presence with the ability to build credibility across all levels of an organization.
\n
• Proven ability to develop leaders, delegate effectively, and create accountability across a sizable organization.
\n
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting required.
\n
• CPA strongly preferred.
\n
• ERP implementation or optimization experience preferred.
