Business Systems Intern
Summer Internship Program Department: Information Technology

Location: Houston, TX, with potential travel to project sites across Texas
Employment Type: Paid Summer Intern (10–12 Weeks)

Position Summary

The Business Systems Intern will support the IT team with administration and reporting across Hays' core business systems, including ERP and HRIS platforms. This role is hands-on and support-driven, giving the intern real exposure to how a growing electrical contractor manages the systems that run recruiting, project operations, and finance behind the scenes.

Key Responsibilities

Systems Support & Administration

• Assist with configuration and administration of ERP/HRIS platforms (e.g., Sage, Workday, or similar).
• Support user account setup, access requests, and basic permissions troubleshooting.
• Help maintain system documentation, process guides, and SOPs.

Reporting & Data Support

• Build and maintain internal reports and dashboards for IT and business stakeholders.
• Assist with data cleanup, validation, and reconciliation across business systems.

Troubleshooting & Projects

• Help troubleshoot day-to-day system issues and document recurring problems and fixes.
• Support integration testing between systems during upgrades or rollouts.
• Participate in user acceptance testing (UAT) for active IT projects.

Qualifications & Skills

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Computer Information Systems or a related field; rising junior or senior preferred
• Basic understanding of business systems or ERP concepts
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Comfortable learning new software platforms quickly
• Strong written and verbal communication skills

Preferred

• Exposure to ERP platforms such as Sage, Workday, or NetSuite
• Basic SQL or data query experience
• Experience with helpdesk or ticketing systems

Internship Program Details

• Paid, 10–12 week summer program (early June – mid-August)
• Assigned supervisor for day-to-day work plus a separate mentor for informal guidance and support
• Company-wide orientation, weekly lunch-and-learns with department leaders, and a mid-summer check-in
• Capstone project presented to department and executive leadership in the final week
• Strong performers — particularly graduating seniors — will be considered for full-time offers
