• Work Environment: Established manufacturing organization with significant capital investment and a strong focus on long-term growth and operational improvementAbout the RoleWe’re looking for an experienced Director of Capital Projects – Manufacturing to lead a growing portfolio of construction, facility, equipment, expansion, and infrastructure projects within an established manufacturing environment.This is a high-level leadership position with responsibility for the company’s capital planning, project execution, and overall CAPEX investment strategy. You’ll oversee multiple projects at various stages, lead Construction Project Managers, manage external contractors and engineering partners, and work directly with executive leadership to determine where and how capital should be invested.The ideal candidate is someone who can operate at both the strategic and project level—someone who can look at a multi-year capital plan with executive leadership one day and work through a construction issue, budget variance, or contractor challenge the next.Key ResponsibilitiesCapital Portfolio Leadership:Lead a portfolio of concurrent construction, facility expansion, equipment installation, renovation, and infrastructure projectsOversee projects from initial concept and business case development through design, permitting, construction, commissioning, and closeoutEstablish project priorities, schedules, budgets, milestones, and performance expectationsMonitor scope, schedule, cost, quality, risk, and resource requirements across the project portfolioCAPEX Strategy & Financial Management:Own the company’s overall CAPEX budget and capital spending processDevelop annual and long-range capital plans in partnership with Executive Leadership and FinanceEvaluate capital requests and make recommendations regarding project priorities and fundingMonitor actual spending against approved budgets and forecast remaining project costsPartner with Finance on capitalization, project accounting, forecasting, and financial reportingProject Management Leadership:Lead and develop Construction Project Managers and additional project resources as the organization growsEstablish accountability, performance expectations, and consistent project management practicesProvide coaching, mentoring, and technical guidance to the project management teamImplement standardized tools, processes, reporting, and project controls across the organizationConstruction & Contractor Management:Oversee contractors, engineering firms, architects, consultants, and other external project partnersReview bids, contracts, scopes of work, change orders, and project commitmentsEnsure contractors deliver against expectations for safety, quality, schedule, cost, and overall performanceManage construction changes, claims, disputes, and other issues that could affect project outcomesExecutive & Cross-Functional Leadership:Partner with Operations and site leadership to execute projects while minimizing disruption to ongoing productionWork closely with Finance, EHS, Legal, Facilities, and other departments throughout the project lifecycleProvide executive leadership with clear reporting on project status, CAPEX spending, risks, timelines, and key decisionsMake recommendations to senior leadership regarding project priorities, funding, and resource allocationRisk, Safety & Compliance:Ensure capital projects meet applicable building codes, permitting requirements, environmental requirements, safety standards, and company policiesIdentify and proactively manage project and portfolio-level risksEnsure appropriate safety expectations are built into construction planning and contractor managementAddress issues early to protect project timelines, budgets, employees, and business operationsQualificationsEducation:Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, Business, or a related fieldExperience:10+ years of progressive experience managing construction, capital projects, facilities, engineering projects, or a combination of theseProven experience managing multiple large-scale projects simultaneouslyDemonstrated experience managing significant CAPEX budgets and capital planningPrevious experience leading Project Managers or other project professionalsManufacturing, industrial, or other complex operating-environment experience strongly preferredProject & Financial Expertise:Strong understanding of construction processes, contracts, project controls, scheduling, budgeting, and cost managementExperience evaluating project costs, forecasts, change orders, and financial performanceAbility to balance long-term capital strategy with day-to-day project executionLeadership & Communication:Proven ability to lead, develop, and hold project teams accountableStrong negotiation, problem-solving, and decision-making skillsComfortable communicating with executive leadership, operations teams, contractors, engineers, and other stakeholdersAble to translate complex project and financial information into clear recommendationsLeadership Style:Strategic thinker who is also willing to get into the detailsHighly organized and comfortable managing competing prioritiesStrong sense of ownership and accountabilityConfident making decisions and resolving issues in a fast-moving environmentWork EnvironmentThis position operates primarily within a professional office and manufacturing environment, with regular interaction across production, facilities, engineering, and construction activities.
