Description:
The CT Scan Technologist performs computer tomography procedures and related techniques.
This includes producing sectional and three-dimensional images for interpretation.
The technologist assists with interventional and therapeutic procedures.
Responsibilities include performing complex CT procedures.
Professional judgment is used when reviewing and obtaining the patient's clinical history for procedures.
It is crucial to ensure information is documented and scanned into the appropriate systems.
The technologist prepares, screens, and reviews the accuracy of the contrast questionnaire with the patient and/or family member.
They identify and/or administer contrast media related to CT exams as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
It is important to review the patient prescription to verify the appropriateness of the exam.
If there are discrepancies, the technologist must communicate with the Radiologist and Referring Physician to obtain additional clinical information or a new prescription.
The technologist is responsible for calling physicians to clarify prescriptions in accordance with appropriate CT protocols.
Verification of insurance authorized exam scripts is required, and exam modification forms should be sent for insurance re-verification.
Outside studies must be obtained and scheduled in the system for comparison by Radiologists.
Exam copies should be provided to the patient and requesting physician or family member.
The technologist evaluates radiographs using the system to ensure they contain proper identification and are of diagnostic value.
Consistent techniques are used to gather relevant information from the medical record and healthcare providers to prepare protocols for scanning.
The collection of information is determined by the patient's needs or condition.
The technologist determines whether the patient has been appropriately prepared for the procedure.
Preparation includes shielding and the use of immobilization devices.
They determine the appropriate type and dose of contrast to be administered.
Accurate explanations and instructions must be provided to the patient in an understandable manner.
Patient questions and concerns regarding the procedure should be addressed and documented.
Venipuncture, IV patency, and maintenance procedures must be performed according to established guidelines.
Monitoring the patient's physical condition for adverse reactions during the procedure is essential.
The technologist is responsible for scheduled shifts, including weekends and holidays as needed.
Adherence to policies regarding employee behavior, attendance, and punctuality is mandatory.
The role may include lifting a minimum of 25 pounds, pushing and pulling a minimum of 50 pounds, and standing for a minimum of 6 hours a day.
The identification of patient population needs and the modification of care to meet those needs is required.
This involves communicating with the patient and caregivers at their developmental and educational level.
Adherence to organizational competencies and standards of behavior is expected.
