Linux System Administrator (Onsite)

Job Title: System Administrator – Onsite (Cedar Rapids, IA) Role Type: Onsite, U.S. citizen required for security clearance. Security Clearance: DoD Secret clearance required day one; active, transferable clearance applicable. Collins Aerospace is seeking a skilled System Administrator with extensive experience in Windows, RedHat Linux, and Ubuntu operating systems to manage, maintain, and troubleshoot our IT infrastructure, ensuring optimal performance and security. Responsibilities Install, configure, and maintain Windows, RedHat Linux, and Ubuntu servers. Perform regular system updates, patches, and security configurations. Monitor system performance and ensure high availability and reliability. Manage user accounts, permissions, and access controls. Install and configure RedHat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) systems; manage packages with YUM/RPM. Implement and manage system security policies and SELinux. Configure and troubleshoot network settings and services. Perform system monitoring and logging using tools such as Rsyslog. Automate administrative tasks using shell scripting and Ansible. Provide technical support and troubleshooting for end‑users and internal teams. Respond to and resolve system‑related incidents and service requests. Collaborate with other IT teams to resolve complex issues. Implement and maintain security best practices; conduct regular security audits and vulnerability assessments (IAW NIST800‑53). Develop and implement backup and recovery strategies; perform regular data backups and disaster recovery validations. Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date documentation of system configurations and procedures. Generate regular reports on system performance, security, and compliance. Qualifications University degree or equivalent experience; minimum 5 years of relevant experience (or advanced degree with minimum 3 years). U.S. citizenship required for security clearance. DoD SECRET clearance required day one. DoD8570 IAT LevelII or higher. Extensive experience applying DoD STIGs to RHEL and Ubuntu servers and workstations. Proven experience as a System Administrator with expertise in Windows, RedHat Linux, and Ubuntu. Strong knowledge of network protocols, firewall management, and network security.
