General Manager

The Steel Penny is a neighborhood-driven restaurant concept focused on elevated, chef-inspired food, craft cocktails, and genuine hospitality. With Detroit-style pizza, house-made offerings, and a strong community presence, the restaurant blends operational excellence with a warm, guest-first experience. As the business continues to grow, including plans for future expansion, the team is looking for a hands‑on General Manager to help lead and scale the operation. The Role The General Manager will own the day‑to‑day operations of the restaurant, leading both front‑of‑house and back‑of‑house teams while ensuring an exceptional guest experience. This is a highly visible, hands‑on leadership role where you will be actively engaged on the floor, especially during peak service. This is not a training role. The ideal candidate is an experienced General Manager who can step in immediately, take ownership, and elevate the business. Key Responsibilities Operations Management Oversee daily restaurant operations across FOH and BOH Ensure consistent execution of service, quality, and operational standards Monitor inventory, vendor relationships, and ordering processes Maintain cleanliness, safety, and compliance with health regulations Hire, train, and develop team members across all positions Create and manage staff schedules based on business needs Coach performance and hold team members accountable Foster a positive, high‑performance culture Guest Experience Lead from the floor and remain highly visible during service Ensure every guest has a strong, memorable experience Address and resolve customer concerns in real time Maintain a hospitality‑first environment Manage P&L performance, including labor and food cost controls Drive revenue through strong operations and service execution Monitor and improve key performance metrics What We’re Looking For Must‑Haves Proven experience as a General Manager in a restaurant or hospitality setting Strong hands‑on leadership style with the ability to lead from the floor Experience managing full restaurant operations, including staffing, scheduling, and cost control Demonstrated ability to lead teams and drive performance Ability to take ownership of the role immediately with minimal onboarding Preferred Qualifications Experience with bar or cocktail programs Background in chef‑driven, boutique, or elevated dining concepts Experience balancing operational structure with a hospitality‑driven environment Ideal Candidate Profile Hospitality‑first mindset with a strong focus on guest experience Organized, proactive, and highly accountable Comfortable operating in a fast‑paced, high‑touch environment A visible leader who jumps in wherever needed Brings both operational discipline and personality to the role Interested in long‑term growth and being part of a scaling concept Compensation Base Salary: Approximately $100,000 On‑Target Earnings: Up to $125,000 with performance bonus Additional details to be discussed during the interview process Why Join The Steel Penny Opportunity to play a key leadership role in a growing concept Direct partnership with ownership Ability to shape operations, culture, and guest experience Potential for future growth as the business expands into additional locations #J-18808-Ljbffr The Steel Penny
