AHD Emergency Department Technician Alameda Health System, Alameda, California, United States Medical SUMMARY: The AHD Emergency Department Technician is responsible and accountable for the delivery of patient care under the direction of the Registered Nurse, according to the philosophy and goals/objectives of the Department of Nursing. This position collects data and implements task‑specific functions as directed by the Registered Nurse. The incumbent delivers care that is specific to the special behaviors/needs of the patient and is age appropriate for the individual, providing for the patient’s significant other's as well. The incumbent will not sub‑delegate tasks that have been delegated by the Registered Nurse. Distribution of staff and patients may require reassignment to other nursing areas. Performs related duties as required. DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Operate necessary computer programs: order entry, charge entry, ED Point of Care log, patient restraint log. Assume an active role in supporting clinicians in the care of the patient. Collaborate with other members of the health‑care team. Report patient condition to R.N. and/or physician, per policy. Complete basic physical observation on patients as assigned. Deliver care specific to developmental age and special needs/behaviors. Prepare patients for examination by the physician and for procedures. Assist nurse or physician with medical surgical procedures. Assist during cardiac arrest by performing CPR, placing monitor electrodes, oral airway placement, obtaining equipment and supplies as directed by M.D. or R.N. Collect urine, stool, and sputum specimens and ensure they are properly labeled and sent to the appropriate department. Provide direct patient care within scope of practice. Ensure all charts have appropriate forms in place. Obtain patient vital signs and document on chart. Document observations of patient behavior on chart and report to R.N. Assist with disassembly of charts and filing. Enter lab test (during codes only) and call appropriate department, as indicated. Maintain patient and family dignity and confidentiality. Perform supportive functions that maintain smooth functioning of the clinical area. Assist with restocking the Emergency Dept. Promote a safe environment for staff, patients, and family members. Orient patient to the Emergency Dept. environment (call bells, etc.). Ensure call lights are within patient’s reach; side rails up on stretchers as indicated for patient safety. Keep patients informed regarding progress of treatment. Transport patients via wheelchair and stretcher, as needed. Assist with patient discharge (e.g., help to car). MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Experience: One year clinical experience in pre‑hospital care and/or acute care preferred. Required Licenses/Certifications: BLS – Basic Life Support certification issued by AHA – American Heart Association. Required Licenses/Certifications: Must have one of the following certifications: EMT, EMT‑P, or CNA. #J-18808-Ljbffr
