Position Overview As a Social Worker 2 with the Bureau of Blindness and Visual Services (BBVS), you will help individuals who are blind or visually impaired build confidence and stability in their daily lives. Description of Work This position focuses on helping individuals access services that support independence and safety at home and in the community. Responsibilities include: Referral Development: Build connections with agencies and organizations to identify individuals who may benefit from services Service Planning: Develop and update plans based on customer goals, available resources, and needed supports Assessment Work: Gather detailed information through interviews to understand needs and begin the rehabilitation process Program Coordination: Arrange and monitor services such as counseling, advocacy, and vision‑related supports Record Management: Enter and update case notes, service information, and documents in the online system Community Outreach: Meet with customers, providers, and groups to support awareness and cooperation Work Schedule and Additional Information Full‑time employment Work hours are negotiable, 7.5‑hour workday with a lunch period of 30 minutes (or 60 minutes depending on work hours), Monday–Friday. AWS (alternate work schedule) may be available. Telework: Opportunity to work from home part‑time upon successful completion of a training period. Telework requires a securely configured high‑speed internet connection and an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If unable to telework, option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. Ability to telework is subject to change. Salary: New hire salary of $59,345.00 per year (before taxes). Required Experience, Training & Eligibility Minimum Experience and Training Requirements Two years of experience as a Social Worker 1 or Forensic Social Worker 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title), with continuous Commonwealth employment since September8,2008. OR two years of experience as a Social Worker1 or Forensic Social Worker1 and one bachelor’s degree in social work or social welfare. OR two years of professional experience providing direct public or private social work services, and one bachelor’s degree in social work or social welfare. OR a master’s degree in social work or social welfare. Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree. Other Requirements You must possess and maintain a REAL ID or passport for this position. You must meet the PA residency requirement. You must be able to perform essential job functions. Legal Requirements This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law. Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
