Veteran Specialist

Job Summary Position: Veteran Specialist – College Certifying Official Responsible for serving as the College’s certifying official for the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA). Provides guidance to student veterans and their families regarding admissions, registration, verification, and certification of VA benefits. Key Responsibilities Process VA certifications for all Title 38 programs in accordance with VA rules and regulations. Receive and process time‑sensitive documents required by the College and the VA. Stay current with all VA and State Approving Agency (SAA) policies and guidelines. Evaluate and ensure procedures are compliant with federal, state, local, and institutional laws and regulations. Assist with outreach and program development for student veterans. Serve as editor of the monthly Military and Veteran Services newsletter. Provide guidance to student veterans regarding College programs and services. Monitor students’ schedule revisions for timely reporting to VA. Evaluate and monitor Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) for veteran students. Maintain a working knowledge of other staff members’ duties and serve as a backup supervisor for the VA work program as needed. Conduct or participate in seminars, workshops, or training sessions. Participate in various meetings and committees. Perform other job‑related duties as assigned. Qualifications Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED; one year of related experience. Knowledge: VA Enrollment Manager and VA Education Benefits; Microsoft Office Professional or similar applications. Skills and Abilities: Attention to detail while maintaining effective time and task management; promoting cooperative behavior and team efforts. Abilities: Effectively communicate verbally and in writing with internal and external customers; build relationships; manage customer expectations; take responsibility for a high level of service; interact positively with diverse populations and varying education levels of students, faculty, staff, and the public. Licenses, Registration, Certifications, or Special Requirements: Regular physical attendance required. Preferred, but not required: Ability to communicate in multiple languages.
