Elementary Teacher

PURPOSE: Under the direction of the Principal, the elementary teacher is responsible for planning, delivering, and assessing instruction for assigned students in alignment with the District's philosophy, curriculum, policies, and procedures. The teacher creates a positive, inclusive, and engaging learning environment, supports the social, emotional, and academic growth of all students, and collaborates with colleagues, parents, and the broader school community to promote student success. - Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
- Plans a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of the students.
- Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
- Prepares for classes assigned and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate superior.
- Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
- Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and in harmony with the goal establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects and the like to communicate these objectives to students.
- Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
- Strives to implement by instruction and action the District's philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
- Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
- Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, District policy and administrative regulation.
- Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct, and for the classroom develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
- Makes provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
- Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for instructional assistant(s) and volunteer(s) and, cooperatively with department heads, evaluates their job performances.
- Strives to maintain and improve professional competences.
- Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
- Participate in and take responsibility for assigned duties, e.g., playground, lunchroom duty, etc.
- Reflect upon own teaching performance and accept/ implement supervisory feedback to improve skills and services to students.
- Take responsibility for pursuing and evaluating own professional growth.
- Attend and participate in building staff meetings and district inservice meetings.
- Participate in activities that are related to school functions and/or the education process that occur outside the regular workday, in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement.
- Work collaboratively with school personnel in meeting diverse social and academic needs of all students.
- Perform in a courteous and efficient manner that builds the confidence of staff, students and the public and enhances learning.
- Maintain regular attendance at work and work activities, and is punctual in meeting deadlines, attending meetings, and following designated work schedule.

- Continue development of job skills necessary to meet changes in the position.
- Maintain personal appearance and hygiene appropriately as defined by the district.

- Valid Oregon teacher's license with appropriate endorsement and grade level authorization.
- Highly Qualified as defined by the No Child Left Behind Act.
- Bilingual Required
- Knowledge of teaching principles/techniques, District philosophy, curriculum, policy and procedure governing classroom instruction.
- Skill in assessing, planning and implementing programs of study for students that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible men and women.
- Ability to apply effective principles of teaching to direct and motivate students.
- Ability to be responsible for the learning environment of assigned students and for supervising assigned teacher assistants and volunteers.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to exhibit professionalism and effective human relations in order to work as a team.
- Ability to facilitate meetings and collaboration efforts with staff and community.
- Ability to travel among district facilities as needed, and, if driving, the ability to meet district driving standards.
- Adherence to safety practices.
- Frequent or prolonged standing, walking and sitting.
- Crouching in order to work with younger students or those wheelchair bound.
- Moderate to high noise level.
- Frequent and prolonged talking/listening in conversations/meetings.
- Requires accurate perceiving of sound, near and far vision, depth perception.
- Requires handling and working with variety of materials and objects.
- Work may occasionally involve lifting/carrying objects weighing 25-50 pounds.
- Work may require lifting or assisting in lifting a student or physically restraining a student from harming self or others.
- Possible exposure to bodily fluids due to student injury or illness.
- Possible exposure to bodily harm due to student behaviors.
- Exposure to a variety of chemicals comprising instructional and art supplies and materials.

- This position is primarily performed indoors in school buildings, although some outdoor instruction and supervision are required.
- This position involves working in close proximity to groups of children and adults.
