Position Overview Buckfire Law is seeking an experienced Managing Attorney to provide legal leadership and firm-wide case oversight across our Litigation, Pre-Litigation, and Medical Malpractice departments. This position will work closely with attorneys, department leaders, and firm leadership to ensure cases continue progressing efficiently, legal standards remain consistent, deadlines and critical case milestones are closely monitored, and attorneys have the guidance and support needed to achieve strong outcomes for our clients. While maintaining a limited personal caseload, the primary responsibility of this position is to oversee legal operations, mentor attorneys, review case strategy, identify potential issues before they arise, and promote consistent, high-quality legal representation across all practice areas. Key Responsibilities Legal Case Oversight Monitor attorney caseloads across Litigation, Pre-Litigation, and Medical Malpractice. Conduct regular case reviews to confirm matters are progressing appropriately and strategically. Monitor critical deadlines, statutes of limitation, court rules, scheduling orders, and litigation milestones. Ensure timely follow-up on discovery, medical records, settlement negotiations, client communications, and outstanding case tasks. Identify matters requiring additional attention and work with attorneys to establish clear next steps. Review case strategy and provide legal guidance on complex matters. Confirm files are appropriately documented and maintained in accordance with firm standards. Assist attorneys in identifying legal risks and opportunities to strengthen case outcomes. Attorney Leadership & Development Provide mentorship, coaching, and legal guidance to attorneys across the firm. Support attorneys in strengthening organization, case management, and legal strategy. Assist with onboarding and training newly hired attorneys. Promote consistency and collaboration across practice areas. Encourage knowledge sharing and professional development. Quality Assurance & Compliance Conduct periodic file reviews to maintain quality, accuracy, and consistency. Ensure case management procedures are followed across departments. Monitor compliance with court rules, ethical obligations, and firm policies. Recommend improvements to legal workflows and case-management practices. Operational Leadership Work closely with department managers and firm leadership to coordinate case oversight and workflow. Monitor caseload distribution, productivity, and department trends. Recommend workload adjustments, staffing support, and process improvements as needed. Participate in leadership meetings and strategic planning initiatives. Partner with the President, COO, Human Resources, and department leaders to support firm objectives. Serve as a trusted legal resource for attorneys and management. The Impact of This Role The Managing Attorney will provide a consistent level of oversight across the firm's legal departments, helping ensure attorneys remain supported, cases continue moving forward, and firm standards are applied consistently. This role will strengthen the coordination that already exists among our attorneys and department leaders by providing one central point of legal oversight, guidance, and accountability across all practice areas. Qualifications Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school. Active member in good standing with the State Bar of Michigan. Minimum of 10 years of plaintiff personal injury litigation experience. Demonstrated leadership, mentoring, and case management experience. Extensive knowledge of litigation procedures, case strategy, and Michigan court rules. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Strong leadership and mentoring abilities. Exceptional legal analysis and strategic thinking. Ability to oversee multiple priorities across several practice areas. Excellent organizational and follow-up skills. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to identify operational inefficiencies and recommend practical improvements. Commitment to client service, legal quality, and accountability.
