Hiring Department University of Missouri – Kansas City KCUR KCUR is seeking a highly motivated and experienced individualcontributor for the role of Finance and Budget Consultant. Thisposition is a crucial member of our team, responsible for the fullarray of accounting, financial and budgeting activities to supportthe University (UMKC) owned radio station, KCUR. This position willplan and implement direction, strategies, and processes to ensureappropriate business procedures and policies are in place, identifypotential areas of exposure and make recommendations to addressissues. UMKC and KCUR are currently exploring a separation whereby KCURwould become an independent community owned non-profitorganization. It is anticipated that this will occur in the next 18months. This position and role will move to the new organization,should this transition of ownership occur. Job Description Strategic Financial Planning: Collaborate with leadership todrive strategic planning activities encompassing accounting,financial analysis, and budgeting for KCUR. Budget Formulation: Work closely with leadership toformulate budgets, develop financial plans, and actively monitorfinancial performance, ensuring alignment with organizationalgoals. Accounting and Financial Statement Analysis: Work closelywith internal and external auditors in annual year end closing,audit, and preparation of financial statements, as needed. Liaison Role: Act as a key liaison between central financeand KCUR leadership, fostering effective communication and ensuringsuccessful implementation of financial strategies and performanceobjectives. Grants Management: Undertake significant financialmanagement of grants, including interpretation and application ofpolicies, allowable allocation of expenditures, tracking costshare, local grant match budgets, and effective oversight ofsubcontracts. Mentoring Opportunities: May involve overseeing and guidingteam members, providing mentorship, and ensuring smooth operationof financial activities within the assigned areas. Change in Ownership Responsibilities: May assist as neededin helping select vendors for the new organization, implementingthe new solutions and setting up the new organization. Once KCUR is an independent entity there will be responsibilitiesin new areas ex. banking and financial policy development and manyothers. Key Responsibilities Monitor all fiscal activity (revenues, expenses, balance sheetand grants) for KCUR. Monitor capital asset activity (where appropriate). Oversee the financial management of grants, includinginterpretation and application of policies, allowable allocation ofexpenditures, tracking cost share, local grant match budgets, andeffective oversight of subcontracts. Work with leadership to formulate budgets, develop financialplans (strategy and long-range plans), and monitor performanceagainst plan ensuring alignment with organizational goals on amonthly, quarterly, and annual basis. Provide financial leadership and expertise; act as a liaisonbetween the central finance office and KCUR. Work closely with internal and external auditors asneeded. Ensure compliance with all regulatory, fiduciary, fiscal, andreporting requirements to ensure resources are well utilized. May oversee and guide team members, providing mentorship, andensuring smooth operation of financial activities within theassigned areas. Work as needed on ad hoc projects and reports. Other duties as assigned Shift This is a full-time (40 hours per week), benefit eligible, staffposition. Minimum Qualifications A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education andexperience and at least 6 years of experience from which comparableknowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, businessadministration, or a related field. Master’s degree or professionalcertification (CPA) is preferred. Minimum of 6 years of experience in financial analysis,budgeting, forecasting, and long-range financial planning,preferably in an academic or research-oriented environment. Strong accounting background and skills with proven expertisein financial statement analysis. Demonstrated expertise in grants management, including a strongunderstating of policies, compliance, and financial reportingassociated with grant funding. Proven ability to collaborate effectively with diversestakeholders, including business leaders, central finance teams,and external partners. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keenattention to detail. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Proficiency in fund accounting (non-profit, GASB). Proficiency in financial software and tools. Anticipated Hiring Range The anticipated hiring range for this position has been establishedas $70,512 - $96,000 annually. Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but notlimited to, the individual’s particular combination of education,skills, and experience, as well as organizationalrequirements.
