Municipal Fleet Equipment Technician (Hydraulics & Diesel)
Picture your morning: a refuse truck rolls in needing a hydraulic line diagnosis, a street sweeper awaits electrical troubleshooting, and a sewer jetter is due for preventive maintenance. You organize the day, prioritize safety, and get essential city services back on the road.
What You’ll Do- Diagnose and repair hydraulic, electrical, diesel, and mechanical systems across municipal equipment (refuse trucks, street sweepers, sewer equipment).
- Perform routine maintenance and preventative service to reduce downtime.
- Troubleshoot complex equipment issues, identify root causes, and recommend effective repairs.
- Weld and fabricate parts or attachments when needed to complete a safe, durable repair.
- Document all work with clear, accurate notes on work orders.
- Communicate findings and timelines with customers, coworkers, and supervisors.
- Keep equipment operational to support service and delivery schedules.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Pitch in with additional shop or field duties as needed.
- 1–3 years repairing heavy or municipal equipment.
- Solid working knowledge of hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems.
- Basic to intermediate welding and fabrication capabilities.
- Strong diagnostic mindset and problem-solving skills.
- High attention to detail with a safety-first approach.
- Independent time management and reliable follow-through on deadlines.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical job duties.
