The Trauma Surgery Nurse Practitioner provides advanced nursing care to critically injured patients in the emergency, operative, and intensive care settings. The NP works collaboratively with trauma surgeons, emergency physicians, and multidisciplinary teams to evaluate, stabilize, and manage acute trauma cases and support recovery. Perform rapid and comprehensive assessments of trauma patients in the emergency department and ICU. Order and interpret diagnostic tests including labs, X-rays, CT scans, and other imaging studies. Assist in surgical procedures and trauma resuscitations as appropriate. Manage preoperative and postoperative care, including wound management, pain control, and monitoring for complications. Coordinate patient care transitions, including transfer to rehabilitation or other care facilities. Provide patient and family education on injury, treatment plans, and recovery expectations. Participate in trauma rounds, multidisciplinary case conferences, and quality improvement activities. Document all assessments, interventions, and patient progress accurately and promptly. Adhere to trauma protocols and guidelines to ensure high-quality patient care. Participate in trauma research and continuing education to maintain clinical competency.

Master's or Doctorate degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program. Experience in trauma, critical care, or emergency medicine preferred. Current licensure as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner in each state of practice. Current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) permit to prescribe controlled substances in each state of practice. State Controlled Substance License (if required by State) National board certification as an Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP-BC) or ACNPC-AG), Acute Care Adult (ACNP-BC). Obtains and subsequently maintains required specific competencies and certifications as outlined on privilege form.
