Job Overview As a Mechanical System Engineer, you will work with business development and program management teams to shape multiple satellite missions simultaneously, each boasting a unique multi‑payload configuration. Your role will traverse boundaries across program management, systems engineering, discipline engineering, and AI&T to contribute to our satellite missions and drive impactful solutions in the evolving space industry. Responsibilities Technical lead for mechanical system design and subsystem procurements Create and maintain CAD models while collaborating with internal teams and customers to conduct mechanical layout Perform system optimization trades by analyzing system performance and maintaining technical budgets Oversee spacecraft‑level structural and thermal analysis Engage closely with internal teams and customers to craft and manage system specifications and verification techniques, ensuring alignment with ambiguous customer requirements Provide support to program management and product management, serving as a liaison with customers to ensure smooth program execution Conduct inspections and reviews of engineering documents and hardware Extend expertise to support test planning and actively participate in the integration and test campaigns at our spacecraft manufacturer’s site, ensuring adherence to rigorous quality standards Mission Mandates Active Top Secret clearance is required and the ability to obtain Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) clearance is required Preference will be given to candidates with a DoD or Intelligence Community Top Secret background investigation with at least 3 years of eligibility remaining or CE status; and SCI eligibility with current experience in SCI programs and/or Special Access Programs Must be a U.S. Citizen Mission Credentials Enjoy being the face of the technical requirements and working with a team to deliver quality hardware Pioneer innovation in aerospace bringing commercial space solutions to U.S. government customers Have comprehensive system‑level knowledge and experience in mechanical subsystems Thrive in a dynamic and fast‑paced development environment, adapting and excelling under pressure Prior experience delivering a spacecraft to orbit and/or space‑qualified hardware to a customer Have 5+ years of experience as a Mechanical Engineer with detailed knowledge of spacecraft structures Detailed understanding of GD&T and tolerance analysis Proficiency with Solidworks or similar CAD software Pragmatic vibration testing experience (pre‑test inputs, test oversight, data reduction, report generation) Compensation Salary Range: $131,750 USD - $178,250 USD Equal Employment Opportunity & affirmative action Loft Federal is an Equal Employment Opportunity and affirmative action employer.
