Bus MonitorPosition Title: Bus MonitorJob Classification: Classified (Non-Exempt)Qualifications: High School diploma and/or training or experienceReports to: Transportation DirectorApproved by: Cartersville School Board Date: June 11, 2012Assists bus drivers in providing safe transportation of students to and from designated locations. Assists bus drivers and students in the operation of lifts for wheelchairs and similar devices. Assists bus drivers with moving and transporting students with disabilities. Operates and secures special equipment that may accompany a student. Is alert to any conditions in the loading and unloading area(s) which present a danger to students. Helps the bus driver meet the individual needs and abilities of the students. Communicates in an appropriate fashion with students, parents, and employees. Helps the bus driver to implement bus rules and procedures. Assists the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct. Complies with any reasonable oral or written directive of the bus driver(s) to which assigned, the principal, or appropriate administrator.Supervises studentsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The individual should possess a fundamental knowledge of basic first aid.Education, Certification, and/or Experience: High School diploma or general education degree (GED) and/or training or experience.Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving concrete variables in standardized situations.Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk; sit; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to stand. While performing the duties of this job, the employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee will regularly work in outside weather conditions as well as in a moving vehicle. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.Attendance: Consistent and regular attendance and punctuality are considered essential requirements for this position.Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with School Board policy on evaluation of classified personnel.
