Job Title: Travel RN - Med/Surg Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Medical Surgical Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 1 year current hospital Med/Surg experience License: Active RN License Certifications: BLS Required Must-Have: - Minimum 1 year current hospital Med/Surg experience - BLS Certification Description: This position is for a travel RN in a Med/Surg unit. The unit has 33 rooms and accommodates up to 49 patients. Some of the rooms are semi-private. There are 62 staff members on the unit. During the day shift, there are 2 charge nurses, 2 techs, and 6-7 RNs. On the night shift, there is 1 charge nurse, 1.5 techs, and 5-6 RNs. Patient ratios are 4:1 during the day and 5:1 at night. The unit utilizes telemetry monitoring equipment. Electronic medical records are managed using Meditech. Skill sets that are most recruited include a minimum of 1 year of current hospital Med/Surg experience. Candidates without this experience will not be considered for the role. Preferred skills include experience with spinal cord injuries and ACLS certification. Typical procedures performed on the unit include wound care and occasional bowel programs. Occasional light burn care is also performed. The ideal candidate should enjoy working on a busy floor with a focus on patient care. The unit specializes in caring for surgical flap patients. They also care for spinal cord injury patients with stage 4 wounds that require surgical intervention. Additional care is provided for low-acuity burn patients. Semi-private rooms may be used when the hospital census is high. This is not the preferred operational method.
