Billing Clerk

We are looking for a customer service oriented individual with prior experience performing billing and invoicing activities to fill a position as Billing Clerk. Our Billing Clerks are responsible for reviewing member billing reports, identifying errors and processing corrections. They may be required to answer member questions both in person and over the phone. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Review billing information to identify and correct errors prior to distribution to members. Review new accounts, re-connects, and disconnects for proper names, addresses, dates, codes, and service charges and communicate with member services and field personnel to ensure service orders are processed correctly. Review inactive accounts with financial balances and make necessary transactions to clear the account. Submit unpaid balances to the collection. Open and distribute mail and process payments. Discuss disputed bills with members. Review usage data before billing and identify accounts which may need meter servicing. Evaluate meter communication errors and notify meter service employees of potential issues. Maintain meter reading routes and communicate with meter service employees. Assist members with signing up for programs such as budget billing and automatic payments and maintain the programs on an ongoing basis. Collaborate with other departments regarding new programs for members. Acknowledge and adhere to ALL LPEA’s SOP’s (standard operating procedures) and Safety Manual KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: High School Diploma or its equivalent 3 years experience in a customer service position, preferably in a billing or invoicing position Typing and calculator skills Working knowledge of computers Ability to operate an adding machine, computer, check reader and various types of office equipment Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills Ability to manage-time effectively Ability to problem-solve and trouble shoot Ability to make sound decisions using data Valid driver's license Summary This job: primarily takes place in a temperature controlled office environment with exposure to general office hazards. frequently requires lifting of up to 10 pounds and occasionally may require lifting up to 25 pounds requires sitting, standing and walking on a routine basis. requires regular use of hands and fingers to hold, grasp, turn, type, pick and pinch. requires the ability to express or exchange ideas by means of spoken word.
