Program Specialist

Position Summary The Program Specialist will build and sustain a supportivecommunity for students in recovery, fostering connection, purpose,and belonging. This role develops the Recovery Living and LearningCommunity (LLC) through research, planning, and collaboration,ensuring alignment with SAMHSA’s pillars of Health, Home, Purpose,and Community. Key responsibilities include designing the programframework and curriculum, cultivating campus and communitypartnerships, guiding resident selection, and monitoring studentengagement and accountability within the LLC. Over time, thespecialist will assess and enhance the program to meet the evolvingneeds of students in recovery. Job Description Essential Functions and Responsibilities Partner with Student Housing and Student Well-Being teams tolaunch and oversee the Recovery LLC. Research national recovery program models and consult withexperts to identify best practices that foster connection, studentsuccess, and inclusive, culturally responsive approaches forbuilding a thriving recovery community on campus. Design a program framework and curriculum that fostersconnection, belonging and personal growth for students’ recoveryjourneys. Recommend policies that support a healthy, inclusive communityaligned with SAMHSA’s pillars of Health, Home, Purpose, andCommunity. Develop and initiate activities, programs and pro-social eventsthat strengthen relationships and create a supportive network amongresidents. Mentor student staff to lead inclusively and cultivatecommunication skills that strengthen the Recovery LLC as aconnected, supportive community where every student feels a senseof belonging and purpose. Establish tools to assess community well-being and identifyopportunities for continuous improvement, working closely with theAssociate Director of Student Housing to Participate in resident selection to help build a positive,engaged community. Collaborate with campus partners to integrate recovery supportinto housing and well-being initiatives, creating a seamless,student-centered experience. Build relationships with local organizations and communitymembers to expand resources and opportunities for students inrecovery. Share progress and insights regularly with campus leadership toensure alignment and continuous improvement. Oversee and support the planning and implementation of programsand pro-social outings. Maintains knowledge and awareness of digital accessibilityincluding the American with Disabilities Act and Section 508. Produces and remediates digitally accessible materials inaccordance with FLC standards. Demonstrated strong interpersonal, written, and verbalcommunication skills Experience using Microsoft Office products, such as MicrosoftTeams, Outlook, and Excel Preferred Education, Specialized Skills and Experience Skills, knowledge, and experience specifically focused on the theneeds of individuals in recovery or with a history of substanceabuse Reports To / Supervisory Responsibility Reports directly to the Associate Director of Residence Life andResidential Education with secondary supervision by the Director ofWell-being and Area Coordinator of Programing with StudentHousing.
