This role ensures timely and accurate reporting using established cancer registry guidelines and supports accreditation requirements for oncology programs. The position also plays a key role in coordinating tumor board activities, maintaining follow-up records, and supporting ongoing education and training initiatives within the cancer registry team.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform casefinding to identify reportable cancer cases
- Abstract and code cancer data in accordance with FORDS, ICD-O, AJCC, and other regulatory standards
- Apply cancer staging methodologies and maintain accurate registry data
- Conduct follow-up activities to ensure complete patient records
- Ensure compliance with state and national cancer reporting requirements
- Coordinate Cancer Conferences/Tumor Board meetings
- Maintain suspense files and complete assigned goals
- Assist in onboarding and training new staff
- Stay current with cancer registry guidelines, coding updates, and accreditation standards
- One of the following:
- Associate Degree in Cancer Information Management (NCRA-approved), OR
- Completion of an NCRA-approved Cancer Information Management program plus an Associate Degree, OR
- Associate Degree in an Allied Health field with required coursework or certification per NCRA guidelines
- Completion of 160 hours in an NCRA-accredited Cancer Information Program
OR - 1 year of Cancer Information Management experience
- Required: Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR)
- Preferred: CTRS certification
- 2+ years of Cancer Information Management experience
- Additional NAACCR or cancer registry training
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Effective written and verbal communication abilities
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Accurate data entry and documentation skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Work Level: Sedentary
- Primarily seated with occasional standing and walking
- Frequent keyboard use and repetitive motion
- Minimal exposure to environmental hazards
- This position does not have supervisory responsibilities
- Ongoing education required to maintain current knowledge of cancer registry standards
