Location: Stafford, VA 22554 Position Summary The essential functions of the job for the Medication Technician require, and may be amended from time to time at the sole discretion of Viva Senior Living to include, but are not limited to the following: Must have successfully completed course work and examinations to obtain certification as a Medication Technician per State regulations. Comply with standards of business conduct in accordance with federal, state, and local health and regulatory standards and guidelines, as applicable. Must complete required continued education and maintain certification per State regulations. Must possess knowledge of state medication techniques. Must possess, at a minimum, a high school diploma or a GED. Must be able to work well with peers in a congenial work environment, and above all, maintain the utmost compassion and dignity to the residents and adhere to the Resident Bill of Rights. In exigent circumstances, the employee may be subject to call back during emergency conditions (e.g., severe weather, evacuation, temporary staffing shortages, etc.). Must adhere to Viva Senior Living’s attendance policies and follow the terms and conditions of employment as set forth in the Employee Handbook. Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English. Must maintain the highest standards in caring and servicing the needs of the residents and residents' family members and loved ones. Must adhere to all facility policies and procedures. Responsibilities / Accountabilities Administers and accurately records the administration of medications for residents as prescribed by the physician in accordance with established policies and procedures of Viva Senior Living and applicable state/federal regulations. Observes, records and reports to the Resident Care Director, or designee, symptoms and conditions of residents that could be related to medication interactions, adverse drug reactions or medication side effects. Determines and records effectiveness of medications in a timely and accurate manner as required by state and federal regulations and provides and promotes resident’s rights during the administration of medications. Stores medications in a safe and accurate manner in accordance with established policies and procedures of Viva Senior Living and applicable state/federal regulations. Monitors medications to ensure adequate accountability measures are taken when medications are ordered, received into the community, administered and at change of shift as required by policies and procedures of Viva Senior Living and applicable state/federal regulations. Routinely inspects, cleans, and monitors equipment and supplies to ensure resident safety. Reports any equipment or supply issues to the Resident Care Director for correction or repair. Obtains, records, and reports vital signs as indicated during the administration of medications. Demonstrates awareness of proper infection control practice by using Universal Precautions and following policies and procedures of the company, including OSHA’s Blood-borne Pathogen Standard. Communicates to residents, staff and others in accurate and factual manner and seeks clarification from or refers questions to Resident Care Director when indicated. Performs other duties as assigned or as listed in the Resident Care Associate job description. Ensures that residents and families receive the highest quality of service in a caring and compassionate atmosphere which recognizes the individuals’ needs and rights. Reports any occupational exposures to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and/or hazardous chemicals in accordance with facility policy. Reports work related injuries and illnesses immediately to your supervisor. As a condition of employment, completes all assigned training and skills competency. Participates in all life safety and emergency drills and trainings. Fulfills responsibilities as assigned during implementation or activation of the facility’s emergency plan. Assists with evacuation of residents in an emergency situation. Maintains confidentiality of Protected Health Information, including verbal, written and electronic communications. Reports non-compliance with policies, procedures, regulations, or breaches in confidentiality to appropriate personnel. Protects residents from abuse and cooperates with all investigations. Reports any allegations of abuse, neglect, misappropriation of property, exploitation, or mistreatment of residents to supervisor and/or administrator. Reports any retaliation or discrimination to the Human Resource Director and the Compliance Officer. Fulfills individual responsibility to report any suspicion of a crime to law enforcement and the state agency. Adheres to scheduled shifts assigned by Executive Director or Supervisor and arrives to your work station at the scheduled time.
