Washington County is seeking a Paralegal to join the District Attorney's Office on the Domestic Violence Team. Ideal Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):


  • Knowledge of: Criminal legal procedures and rules in the state court system, principles, methods, and procedures for conducting legal research, Word processing systems, filing and records management systems, as well as office software applications used in legal offices.

  • Skills to: communicate effectively orally and in writing, use logic and reasoning to identify alternative solutions or approaches to problems, prepare legal documents and trial forms typical of court proceedings.

  • Ability to: Communicate statements of law, fact, and arguments clearly and logically in written and oral form, effectively organize and prioritize work to meet established deadlines, conduct legal research, compile data, and produce reports.

About the Department/Division:


The Domestic Violence (DV) Paralegal assists a team of deputy district attorneys in the development and organization of their cases. Conducts legal research and writing for relevant issues. Organizes case files and digital evidence. Provides summaries and compiled data and reports to aid the deputy district attorneys to complete their case reviews and prepare for court. The Paralegal uses legal and organizational knowledge to manage and control exhibits and documents associated with court proceedings and cases.


Bilingual Positions
Bilingual positions require that the incumbent have knowledge of the Spanish language, spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Skill in writing Spanish accurately; ability to speak Spanish fluently; and ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing are required. Additional compensation is provided to staff members occupying bilingual positions.


Minimum Qualifications


Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in legal studies or a related field from an accredited institution, or the completion of a comprehensive formal paralegal program; AND two (2) years of professional legal support experience, including legal research, case preparation support for prosecutors, trial preparation, or related experience.

Special Qualifications:
  • Completion of a Paralegal Program approved by the American Bar Association

  • Experience performing paralegal work in the area of criminal prosecution

  • Bilingual in Spanish Preferred

Additional Requirements:
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check.

  • Language proficiency verification may be required
