Role Summary Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems Common Products Program seeks an Engineer or Principal Engineer Guidance Navigation Control to support the VMS team in Rancho Bernardo, CA. Responsibilities Perform various Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) tasks, including nonlinear 6DOF simulation analysis, stress testing, trade studies, and mission analysis. Conduct linear MATLAB analysis (gain/phase margin determination, gain/filter determination). Design, code, and test embedded flight control software. Support flight testing through pre‑flight predictions, real‑time support, post‑flight analysis, and parameter identification. Develop or improve G&C methods or processes to maintain state‑of‑the‑art tools. Support proposal preparation and new project activities, including technical, cost, and schedule aspects. Basic Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) with at least 2 years of experience (Engineer level). Master’s degree in STEM with no required experience (Engineer level). For Principal Engineer level: Bachelor’s in STEM with at least 5 years of experience, Master’s in STEM with at least 3 years of experience, or a PhD. Proficiency in MATLAB and Simulink. Knowledge of C/C++ and Python. Knowledge of flight sciences, control law development, or control system analysis. Ability to obtain/maintain a final Secret clearance. Ability to obtain final adjudicated program access within a reasonable time frame. Preferred Qualifications Excellent communication, analysis, and problem‑solving skills. Ability to work in a multi‑disciplinary team environment. Final adjudicated U.S. government Secret clearance. Proficiency in C/C++. Experience with UAVs. Experience in flight test. Experience designing control laws for fixed‑wing aircraft and performing handling qualities analyses. Working knowledge of MIL‑STD‑1797 flying qualities requirements. MATLAB programming skills. Experience using Simulink. Salary Range Primary Level: $91,800 - $137,600. Secondary Level: $114,000 - $171,000.
