Assistant Production Manager

Sensical is seeking a hands-on Assistant Production Manager to support daily manufacturing operations and serve as the second-in-command to the CM Manager. This is a key leadership role for an experienced manufacturing professional who can guide supervisors and team leads, make sound operational decisions, resolve production challenges, and keep daily operations running safely and efficiently. The ideal candidate is a visible, proactive leader who takes ownership, holds teams accountable, develops people, and is willing to work directly on the production floor when needed. This individual will help drive production performance, maintain quality standards, manage staffing needs, and ensure customer demands are met.

Schedule: Monday–Thursday, 6:00 AM–4:30 PM, with occasional Fridays as needed.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the CM Manager in overseeing daily manufacturing operations and provide leadership coverage when the manager is unavailable.
• Maintain a strong presence on the production floor, providing hands-on leadership and operational support.
• Directly assist with production activities when business needs require it.
• Establish daily priorities and communicate clear expectations to supervisors and team leads.
• Serve as a primary point of contact for operational issues, helping resolve problems quickly and effectively.
• Monitor production performance, workflow, work in process (WIP), staffing levels, and employee qualifications.
• Support production changeovers, troubleshoot operational challenges, and help minimize disruptions.
• Make proactive staffing and scheduling decisions to reduce unplanned overtime and urgent production expedites.
• Coach supervisors and team leads on employee performance, attendance, conduct, and accountability.
• Support the consistent enforcement of safety, quality, productivity, and workplace standards.
• Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and strengthen production processes.
• Train and develop supervisors and team leads while supporting the onboarding and training of production associates.
• Conduct routine performance reviews with supervisors and team leads.
• Make day-to-day operational decisions independently and escalate significant issues appropriately.

Qualifications

• Previous leadership experience in a manufacturing or production environment.
• Experience leading production teams and supporting supervisors or team leads is strongly preferred.
• Ability to lead by example, maintain a strong floor presence, and work alongside the production team when necessary.
• Strong problem-solving, organizational, prioritization, and decision-making skills.
• Ability to coach employees, address performance concerns, and promote accountability.
• Working knowledge of production flow, staffing, changeovers, and performance monitoring.
• Effective communication and collaboration skills across all levels of an organization.
• Commitment to workplace safety, product quality, productivity, and continuous improvement.
• Ability to adapt to changing production demands and respond effectively to operational challenges.
