Travel Nursing Job Details

• Position: Pediatric Psychiatric Registered Nurse (RN)
• Assignment Type: 13-week behavioral health travel contract
• Location: Seattle, Washington
• Start Date: November 16, 2026
• End Date: February 15, 2027
• Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,770–$1,870
• Schedule: 12-hour night shifts, typically 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.; 36 hours per week with three 12-hour shifts typical. An alternate four-shift schedule may be available.
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Clinical Setting: Acute pediatric psychiatric crisis unit serving patients ages 4–17
• Patient Assignments: Typically 1:6, with 1:1 and milieu-support assignments as needed
• Electronic Medical Record: Epic preferred
• Orientation: 112 hours

Pediatric Psychiatric RN Job Requirements

• At least 2 years of pediatric psychiatric nursing experience required; experienced behavioral health RNs with limited pediatric experience may be considered.
• Active Washington RN license or compact RN license by the start date. Nurses with a pending Washington license must be willing to apply upon offer.
• Current BLS and PALS or PEARS certifications required.
• CPI and Safety-Care certification are preferred.
• Demonstrated knowledge of pediatric behavioral health, crisis intervention, suicide and self-injury precautions, de-escalation, medication administration, and behavioral management techniques.
• Ability to use least-restrictive interventions and perform physical holds, mechanical restraint, or seclusion when clinically indicated and permitted by policy.
• Strong therapeutic communication skills and the ability to work compassionately with children, adolescents, and families.
• COVID-19 vaccination required, with medical or religious exemptions considered according to applicable policy.

Pediatric Behavioral Health Nursing Responsibilities

• Provide safe, compassionate, and developmentally appropriate nursing care to children and adolescents ages 4–17 experiencing acute psychiatric or behavioral health crises.
• Care for patients with conditions that may include depression, anxiety, ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, psychosis, mania, eating disorders, conduct disorder, suicidal ideation, and self-injurious behaviors.
• Assess patient needs, administer medications, monitor treatment response, and maintain a safe therapeutic environment.
• Support patients with chronic medical needs such as diabetes, epilepsy, refeeding, nasogastric tube management, cast care, and wound care.
• Use prevention, therapeutic communication, verbal de-escalation, and trauma-informed techniques to manage disruptive or escalating behaviors.
• Initiate and perform approved physical holds, mechanical restraint, or seclusion only when necessary to protect patient and staff safety and in accordance with established protocols.
• Complete safety checks, provide low-stimulation support, and assume 1:1 or milieu-support responsibilities when assigned.
• Collaborate with pediatric mental health specialists and the interdisciplinary team to support individualized care plans and therapeutic programming.
• Accurately document assessments, interventions, patient responses, and care plans in the electronic medical record.
