Senior Business Analyst - ELN and LIMS

The Senior Business Analyst on the LIMS/ELN and Entity Registration Platforms team bridges scientific research needs and IT solutions, with a focus on ELN/LIMS capabilities and the responsible adoption of Generative AI. The role partners with researchers, lab personnel, and IT to understand workflows, design solutions, and ensure effective implementation and support. It is a hands‑on, build‑oriented delivery model, configuring working solutions and prototypes directly in the platform and using live demonstrations to validate designs with stakeholders. Responsibilities Build to demonstrate: create working configurations and walk stakeholders through live sessions, complementing requirements documentation with tangible, testable solutions. Hands‑on prototyping: configure working solutions directly in Benchling (or Sapio, Genedata, IDBS) to validate designs early and reduce rework. Demonstrate solutions live: use platform sessions alongside documentation so stakeholders can react to a real solution. Iterative, sprint‑based delivery: scope and deliver in short cycles, refining configurations based on direct user feedback. GenAI as a practical tool: build and test AI‑assisted lab workflows—prompt templates, summarization, protocol drafting—iterating with users to prove value before scale‑up. Platform depth: apply strong ELN/LIMS configuration expertise (schemas, registry models, templates, routing) to complement analytical and stakeholder skills. Prototyping & platform delivery: translate scientific workflow needs into working platform configurations and conduct sessions to validate designs with scientists. GenAI workflow enablement: identify, prototype, and deploy GenAI‑assisted workflows, build prototypes using API calls and lightweight RAG pipelines, demonstrate live, and define evaluation criteria and guardrails. Requirements & solution design: collaborate with scientists and lab managers to understand experimental workflows, document user needs, and design configurations, integrations, and data standards. Delivery & quality assurance: manage backlog and sprint delivery, write user stories and acceptance criteria, script and execute UAT, develop training materials, and partner with QA/validation. Stakeholder & vendor engagement: serve as the primary technical contact for scientific stakeholders, coordinate with platform vendors, and contribute to SOWs and roadmap planning. Ideal Candidate Profile Combines sound analysis with the ability to build; comfortable documenting workflows and configuring Benchling schemas or GenAI prototypes to demonstrate solutions. Hands‑on ELN/LIMS configuration experience: Benchling schema design, registry models, entry workflows, notebook templates, routing rules or equivalent with Sapio, Genedata, Dotmatics, Revvity, or IDBS. Life sciences domain fluency: molecular biology, antibody discovery, protein chemistry, biochemistry, or related R&D lab workflows. Degree in Biological or Chemical Sciences; prior research experience preferred. GenAI prototyping capability: built and demonstrated working AI‑assisted workflows—prompt engineering, RAG, evaluation frameworks. Basic Python or notebook skills sufficient for demonstration. Clear communication: able to communicate effectively with lab, IT, and leadership audiences, and conduct live system walkthroughs. Regulatory awareness (preferred): working knowledge of 21 CFR Part 11, GxP/CLIA data integrity principles, and their implications for ELN/LIMS configuration. Qualifications Bachelor’s or Master’s in Life Sciences (Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Bioengineering) or related field. 3+ years configuring and implementing ELN/LIMS platforms in life‑science R&D (Benchling, Sapio, Genedata, Dotmatics, Revvity, or IDBS). 3+ years in a hands‑on platform delivery role (Product BA, Platform Analyst, or equivalent) combining analysis with direct configuration work. 1–2+ years enabling GenAI solutions for scientific workflows (prompting, RAG architectures, evaluation/guardrails, responsible deployment). Technical skills: ELN/LIMS configuration schemas, registry/entity models, notebook templates, workflow routing, roles/permissions; REST APIs / JSON; basic SQL for data validation and ad hoc analysis; familiarity with data models, ontologies, and controlled vocabularies; exposure to cloud analytics environments (Databricks, Snowflake, Power BI); basic Python or Jupyter notebooks for GenAI prototyping and data exploration (preferred). Preferred Qualifications Hands‑on instrument data capture integration experience. Familiarity with vector search, embeddings, and LLM evaluation frameworks. Compensation Overview San Diego, CA — US $100,420 - $121,684 per year. The starting compensation range is for a full‑time employee (FTE) basis. Additional incentive cash and stock opportunities (based on eligibility) may be available. Final, individual compensation will be decided based on demonstrated experience.
