General Manager

Job Description

Insight Global is seeking a General Manager to join a leading heavy civil contractor specializing in road construction, highway paving, airport development, large sitework, and infrastructure projects throughout the Midwest. This individual will be responsible for leading regional operations, driving strategic growth initiatives, ensuring operational excellence, and fostering a culture centered around safety, client satisfaction, and long-term profitability.

The General Manager will serve as a key member of the leadership team, partnering closely with executive leadership, senior project management teams, and operations personnel to establish and execute strategic objectives. This role requires a strong business leader with deep heavy civil construction experience who can effectively manage large-scale operations while building lasting client and industry relationships.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

Lead and oversee regional operations, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives, safety initiatives, and financial performance goals

Establish strategic growth plans and partner with executive leadership to execute operational priorities

Manage and mentor senior leaders, project managers, and operations personnel while fostering a high-performance culture

Ensure projects are executed safely, efficiently, profitably, and in accordance with client expectations

Maintain strong relationships with clients, public agencies, subcontractors, and industry partners

Drive business development efforts through networking, relationship building, and identification of new opportunities

Review project financial performance, resource allocation, production goals, and operational KPIs

Partner with project teams to identify risks and proactively implement mitigation strategies

Lead troubled project recovery efforts and provide operational guidance to maximize project success

Promote continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, productivity, and customer satisfaction

Skills and Requirements

10+ years of progressive leadership experience within heavy civil construction, infrastructure, road building, excavation, concrete paving, or highway construction

Proven experience overseeing multiple large-scale construction projects and operational teams simultaneously

Strong financial acumen with experience managing budgets, forecasting, cost controls, and profitability metrics

Demonstrated success developing and maintaining client relationships within the construction industry

Experience leading project recovery efforts, mitigating risk, and driving operational improvement initiatives

Strong understanding of safety programs, OSHA regulations, DOT standards, and best practices within heavy civil construction

Experience leading and developing project managers, operations leaders, and field leadership teams

Valid driver's license and ability to travel as needed Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Business Management, or a related field

Prior experience in civil excavation, highway paving, concrete paving, or transportation infrastructure construction

Experience managing self-perform construction operations

Established relationships within the Wisconsin heavy civil construction market

Experience overseeing annual revenues exceeding $50M+ in construction operations
