Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse (RN) provides professional nursing care across the lifespan by assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care according to organizational standards and evidence-based practice. The RN delivers culturally sensitive, patient-centered services while collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to promote optimal patient outcomes, safety, and positive patient experiences. This role requires strong clinical judgment, effective communication, and accountability in nursing decision-making. Responsibilities:

• Perform comprehensive patient assessments and develop individualized care plans.
• Implement and evaluate nursing interventions and patient responses.
• Administer medications and treatments safely and accurately per provider orders and policy.
• Recognize changes in patient condition and initiate appropriate interventions or escalation of care.
• Provide patient and family education related to care, medications, and discharge needs.
• Deliver culturally responsive, patient-centered care.
• Apply nursing judgment to interpret assessments and determine nursing actions independently.
• Collaborate with providers and interdisciplinary teams to coordinate care and facilitate referrals and follow-up.
• Document assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately and timely in electronic health records.
• Participate in quality and performance improvement activities.
• Provide guidance and delegation to ancillary staff; support orientation and mentoring of staff, students, and peers.
• Float to other departments or assignments as needed.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Associate's degree in Nursing from an accredited program.
• Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse license in the State of Alaska.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Clinical competency assessment within 3 months of hire and every 3 years thereafter.
• High Risk Competency validation within 3 months of hire and annually thereafter.
• Ability to perform nursing duties in accordance with Alaska Board of Nursing scope of practice.
• Strong clinical judgment, organization, prioritization, and communication skills.
• Proficiency with electronic health records and clinical systems.
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform clinical tasks requiring standing, bending, and kneeling.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Case Management certification.
• Advanced specialty certifications such as ACLS, PALS, NRP, TNCC, ENPC as applicable to practice area.

Special Considerations:

• Must obtain all required specialty-specific and advanced certifications within six months of hire if entering a new specialty.
• Nurses who float to other areas must complete certifications required for the highest level specialty in those areas.
• Work involves exposure to moderate-to-high noise clinical environments.
• Accountability for nursing decisions, delegated tasks, and outcomes per Alaska statutes and organizational policy.

Scheduling:

• Work schedule and shifts determined by facility needs; flexibility to float to other departments required.
• May include various shift types consistent with hospital operations.
