Seeking an exciting and personally rewarding career. Department Overview The Corinth Police Department works in a supportive community with a low crime rate that allows time for community policing. Officers receive approximately $10,000 worth of personal equipment, including firearms and boots. The Patrol fleet is well‑equipped and maintained. Officers may receive a take‑home car benefit (with restrictions) and are eligible for longevity pay. Specialized assignments include school resource officer, K‑9 handler, motorcycle officer, investigator, and bicycle patrol. General Purpose Under general supervision, provide responsive and courteous police services in the protection of life and property through the enforcement of laws and ordinances, routine patrol, interventions, assistance, investigations, and traffic regulation duties. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Preserve community peace through mediation, investigation, intervention, assistance, documentation, and arrest; use all lawful means to improve quality of life. Patrol the city to respond to assistance requests, enforce traffic regulations, detect crime, apprehend violators, and assure public safety. Provide security for assigned areas, respond to emergency and non‑emergency calls, interrogate victims and suspects, and protect fire and medical personnel. Enforce local, state, and federal laws and comply with local regulations and ordinances. Investigate crimes and accidents; secure and process scenes and collect evidence within scope of authority. Arrest law violators; transport and process suspects, victims, and prisoners. Complete detailed reports and required paperwork. Maintain vehicle and equipment per department standards. Represent the city in court hearings; prepare reports and testify in court cases. Coordinate with other emergency services, outside organizations, businesses, and law‑enforcement agencies. Present education and information programs for community and school awareness projects. Perform specialized functions (training, K‑9, SWAT, event security, computer systems, investigative teams). Maintain integrity, professionalism, and departmental goals by following all rules and regulations. Cooperate with co‑workers professionally to accomplish work efficiently. Maintain regular, predictable attendance; attendance affects continued employment. Perform other duties as assigned or required. Minimum Qualifications Age: 21 years at time of written exam. Citizenship: United States citizen. Education: High school diploma or GED. Certification: Currently certified by TCOLE or a peace officer in another state qualified to pass the TCOLE exam. Driver's License: Valid driver’s license required before employment; must obtain a Texas Class C license within 30 days of hire. Mental condition: Pass board interview, polygraph, and psychological examination. Physical condition: Pass medical examination and drug screen. Vision: 20/20 vision (corrected or uncorrected). Must wear contact lenses or glasses during duty if vision correction is needed. No dichromatic or night blindness. Hearing: Pass hearing test. Criminal record: No convictions for offenses above Class C misdemeanor. Required Knowledge City policies and procedures. City, county, state, and federal laws, regulations, codes, and ordinances. Texas criminal justice and court systems and principles of records management. Law‑enforcement methods, practices, and procedures. Basic criminal law on apprehension, arrest, custody, preservation, and presentation of evidence. Rules of evidence, probable cause, use of force, search and seizure. Investigative and interrogative procedures and protocols. Local community issues and regional resources. Geography, roads, and landmarks of the city and surrounding areas. Police Department General Orders, policies, and procedures. Customer service standards and protocols. Required Skill Exercise controlled discretion in situations requiring diplomacy, fairness, and sound judgment. Recognize suspicious behavior, mediate difficult situations, and use effective arrest & control techniques. Interact with individuals of varying social, economic, and ethnic backgrounds. Remain alert and react calmly in emergency situations. Operate motor vehicles and specialized police equipment during emergencies. Interpret laws and regulations, make decisions, maintain composure, and work effectively under stress. Evaluate facts and evidence, draw logical conclusions, and make proper recommendations. Care for and safely operate firearms, impact weapons, chemical agents, and other tools. Operate a personal computer and various business software. Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Physical Demands / Work Environment Indoor and outdoor work with exposure to inclement weather. Physically restrain persons. Expect extended periods of concentration reviewing crime scenes, investigations, and report preparation. Work in uniform on weekdays, weekends, and holidays any shift. Maintain physical fitness to meet department standards. Supplemental Information – Disqualifiers Not a U.S. citizen. Conviction or admission of class A or B misdemeanor within the past ten years. Conviction of a felony. Pending criminal charges. Driving under influence within past ten years. Failed to demonstrate English language proficiency. Unable to perform essential functions. Unable to obtain a valid Texas driver’s license. Use of illegal substances (including marijuana and prescription misuse).
