Eastern Staffing & Recruiting is looking to hire an  Accounts Payable Clerk for our client in Broome County, NY! This position is responsible for processing vendor invoices, handling high volumes of data entry, maintaining accurate financial records, assisting with sales tax reporting, and communicating with internal buyers and external vendors to resolve invoicing issues. This is a contract position through September, with the opportunity to be considered for conversion to perm.

 

Responsibilities

• Enter vendor invoices into the accounting system with correct coding and documentation.
• Match invoices with purchase orders and receipts where applicable.
• Ensure proper approvals and timely payment processing (checks, ACH, credit card).
• Maintain organized vendor files and monitor account balances.
• Communicate with vendors regarding billing questions or discrepancies.
• Perform data entry with accuracy and efficiency.
• Assist with compiling and submitting monthly, quarterly, and annual sales tax reports.
• Maintain accurate digital and physical filing systems for financial records.
• Support month-end close by preparing reconciliations and reports as needed.
• Assist with audits by gathering documentation and supporting schedules.
• Additional duties as requested.

 

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree in accounting or related field preferred.
• 1–3 years of experience in accounts payable, accounts receivable, or general bookkeeping preferred.
• Strong data entry skills with high accuracy and attention to detail.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software preferred.
• Basic understanding of accounting principles and sales tax regulations.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and meet deadlines.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to maintain confidentiality.

 

The estimated annual salary range for this position is $40,000 to $55,000, though a candidate's salary will be determined on a range of factors, including, but not limited to, qualifications and experience.
