CAH - BILLING CLERK Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center, Carthage, New York, United States About this position A Billing Clerk is responsible for preparing third‑party claim forms for submission, both electronically and by paper, following basic claim submission rules and forms. The role includes follow‑up procedures to obtain proper payment from third parties, answering billing inquiries, and providing general assistance and support to the business office. The position ensures patient account representation complies with state and federal regulations. Reports To Billing Office Manager Compensation Hourly wage: $22.97 - $29.57 (Uncertified) or $24.30 - $32.43 (Certified). Additional per diem differential not included. Eligibility Internal posting dates: July 1, 2026 – July 6, 2026. Education and Experience High School diploma or GED Minimum two years of patient account experience Preferred: Hospital or medical office experience Preferred: Medical billing certification through an accredited organization Required Qualifications Problem‑solving skills Knowledge of medical terminology Ability to read EOBs (explanation of benefits) Knowledge of CPT and ICD‑10 coding Basic data entry skills; 10‑key proficiency Computer proficiency Cooperation, flexibility, and assistance when interfacing with patients, physicians, and staff Multi‑tasking ability Organizational skills and accuracy in reporting information Basic math skills Respect for confidentiality Composure in stressful situations Effective working relationships with all staff Adherence to detailed instructions when preparing records Physical ability to sit for long periods of time Effective communication in person and on the phone Consistency and timeliness in attendance Preferred Certifications AMBA (American Medical Billing Association) CMRS (Certified Medical Reimbursement Specialist) HFMA (Healthcare Financial Management Association) CRCR (Certified Revenue Cycle Representative) Equal Opportunity Statement Carthage Area Hospital and Claxton‑Hepburn Medical Center are Equal Opportunity Employers.
