Pharmacy Technician with previous hospital pharmacy experience - oncology/infusion center experience preferred

Position Summary:
The Pharmacy Technician supports licensed pharmacists in the preparation, dispensing, and distribution of medications while ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with state and federal regulations. The ideal candidate possesses strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced healthcare environment while providing exceptional customer service.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, package, label, and dispense prescription medications under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
• Receive and process new prescriptions, refill requests, and medication orders accurately.
• Enter prescription information into pharmacy management systems while maintaining patient confidentiality.
• Assist with medication inventory management, including ordering, stocking, rotating, and removing expired medications.
• Process insurance claims and resolve billing or prior authorization issues when applicable.
• Maintain accurate medication records and documentation in accordance with regulatory requirements.
• Answer telephone calls and assist patients and healthcare providers with routine pharmacy inquiries.
• Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and company policies, including HIPAA and pharmacy regulations.
• Assist with medication storage, controlled substance documentation, and inventory audits.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe pharmacy environment.
• Collaborate with pharmacists, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to support quality patient care.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT) preferred or required based on state regulations.
• Active Pharmacy Technician registration/licensure as required by state law.
• Previous pharmacy experience in a retail, hospital, long-term care, or specialty pharmacy preferred.
• Knowledge of pharmacy terminology, medication names, dosages, and pharmaceutical calculations.
• Experience with pharmacy software and electronic health record (EHR) systems preferred.
• Strong attention to detail, organizational, and multitasking abilities.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative healthcare team.

Preferred Skills

• Knowledge of medication safety practices and regulatory compliance.
• Hospital experience - oncology/infusion center
• Familiarity with automated dispensing systems (e.g., Pyxis, Omnicell) in hospital settings.
• Ability to prioritize workload in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
