Recreation Community Supervisor I - Therapeutic Program

Job Title Recreation Community Supervisor I – Therapeutic Program (Department of Recreation and Parks) Pay Schedule Schedule VI, Grade 26, Regular Schedule: 35 hours per week. Definition of Responsibility Assists the Human Services Program Supervisor and the Regional Coordinator in planning, organizing, and supervising therapeutic recreation and parks programs, and the operation and maintenance of community recreation facilities. Job Purpose Under general supervision, helps in managing therapeutic programs and operations of a recreation center or related facility. Essential Job Duties Develop and implement comprehensive therapeutic recreational programs that meet the needs and interests of constituents across the County. Plan, organize, and coordinate a variety of therapeutic recreational activities, including sports leagues, fitness programs, arts and crafts, and special events. Collaborate with community organizations and partners to enhance program offerings and promote participation. Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate program coordinators and staff members. Develop and manage program budgets to ensure resources are allocated efficiently. Maintain and update program policies and procedures to ensure compliance with safety regulations and industry standards. Conduct regular evaluations and assessments of program effectiveness and make recommendations for improvements. Provide excellent customer service to program participants, addressing inquiries, concerns, and feedback promptly and professionally. Foster a positive and inclusive environment that promotes teamwork, creativity, and personal growth. Stay up to date with trends and best practices in recreation and parks management. Enter and monitor programs and data into the registration software: CivicRec. Other Duties Performs other related duties as required. Required Education and Experience Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in recreation and parks, physical education, business or public administration, behavioral or health sciences, education, or a closely related field. Experience described in the Essential Duties may substitute for education on a year‑for‑year basis. Preferred Qualifications Master’s or advanced coursework in Recreation and Parks Administration, Sports Management, or a related field. Minimum of 1 year of experience in therapeutic program development and management, preferably in a recreational setting. Strong leadership and supervisory skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a team. Excellent organizational and time‑management abilities, with the capacity to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines. Knowledge of therapeutic programming principles, techniques, and trends. Familiarity with budgeting, financial management, and resource allocation. Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with diverse groups of individuals. Proficiency in computer applications related to program management and reporting. CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain). Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (Entry Level) Knowledge of the principles, practices, and theory of therapeutic programming, recreational, and leisure activities. Ability to manage a recreation center, park, or related facility. Ability to supervise and train staff. Ability to recruit, train, and guide volunteers. Ability to supervise the receipt and accounting of fees. Ability to gather fiscal data and prepare financial reports. Ability to assist in the planning, organizing, and supervising of recreation and parks programs for a community. Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with the public, other agencies, and co‑workers. Ability to communicate effectively and represent the department at meetings. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (Full Performance) Knowledge of County and departmental rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Knowledge of departmental recreation and parks programs, services, and operations. Knowledge of the principles and practices of managing a recreation facility. Skill in the management of a recreation center, park, or related facility. Skill in the supervision and training of staff. Skill in recruiting, training, and guiding volunteers. Skill in supervising the receipt and accounting of fees. Skill in gathering fiscal data and preparing financial reports. Skill in assisting in the planning, organizing, and supervising of recreation and parks programs for a community. Physical and Environmental Conditions The work of this classification entails some physical labor, including walking over rough, uneven surfaces during facility and ground inspections, and lifting and carrying items. The work hours and weekly schedule may vary week to week, on weekends, and seasonally. Employees may be assigned to nights, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
