Acting Instructor/Pearson Fellow in Applied Mathematics Position Overview Organization: Applied Mathematics Title: Acting Instructor/Pearson Fellow in Applied Mathematics Position Description The Department of Applied Mathematics at the University of Washington invites applications for a small number of Pearson Fellow positions with an anticipated start date of September 16, 2027. Pearson Fellows are hired as Acting Instructors and have a reduced teaching load. We seek applicants who demonstrate commitment to excellence in research, teaching, and service in a diverse and inclusive academic community. The successful candidate will join us on a full-time basis for a nine-month academic, 1 year, renewable appointment beginning September 16, 2027. The base salary for this position will be $8,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute substantially to the Department's research and teaching mission. Applicants are expected to have a background and interest in applied mathematics or related areas and an ability and affinity for communicating ideas of applied mathematics, in both teaching and research settings. Applicants in all areas of applied mathematics are encouraged to apply, but particularly in the research areas that are currently represented in the department (climate and atmospheric science, data science, dynamical systems, financial mathematics, mathematical biology, mathematical methods, nonlinear waves, numerical analysis, scientific computing, and optimization). These full-time 9-month temporary positions are renewable twice depending on, as applicable, satisfactory teaching performance and research progress, for a total of three 9-month periods. Qualifications Applicants for this instructional faculty position must meet the following minimum qualifications: Applicants should hold a PhD, or foreign equivalent, in (applied) mathematics or a related field by the start of the appointment. Applicants must demonstrate a strong record of research in a relevant area of applied mathematics and demonstrate excellence in teaching.
