Description


The Coral Springs Police Department has a diverse workforce, with an authorized strength of 230 police officers and over 99 civilian members, who are dedicated to providing the highest level of professional service to our citizens, businesses and the visitors we serve. We are nationally accredited, as an Accreditation with Excellence Agency in both Law Enforcement and Communications, through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) as well as a Meritorious Agency at the state level through the Florida Commission for Law Enforcement Accreditation (CFA).

This level of service has allowed Coral Springs to enjoy one of the lowest crime rates in Florida for cities with a population of over 100,000 residents. By incorporating a number of problem solving initiatives throughout the community, such as the Burglary Enforcement And Reduction Unit, the Make a Call Make a Difference community crime campaign and having a School Resource Officer in every public school, our staff is committed to the City of Coral Springs' mission statement: to be the premier city in which to live, work and raise a family.

Examples of Duties


Under direct supervision, employees in this position serve as entry-level administrative and purchasing support to the Purchasing Unit of the Police Department. The purpose of the position is to focus on helping manage procurement, manage inventory, receiving shipments, vendor coordination, uniform and equipment distribution, recordkeeping, and general office administration.


  • Assist with purchasing operations, including preparing purchase requisitions and reviewing procurement needs.
  • Receive, process, and distribute deliveries (UPS, freight, and special shipments).
  • Maintain inventory records, and tangible stock inventory.
  • Coordinate uniform fitting, issuance, and disposal of uniforms and equipment.
  • Support vendor relationships to ensure a steady supply of products and equipment.
  • Assist in the processing of invoices, travel requests, registrations, and related administrative documents.
  • Maintain filing systems and department records.
  • Perform data entry and other administrative support tasks.
  • Assist with travel arrangements for conferences, meetings, and training events.
  • Help monitor office workflow and ensure administrative coverage during business hours.
Typical Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED. Two (2) to three (3) years experience in the administrative support functions of purchasing, accounting, inventory or related field; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Physical Requirements
The work is medium work which requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of generally accepted standard purchasing principles, established procedures, departmental guidelines, and regulatory requirements applicable to the work.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to utilize vendor catalogues, commercial registers, directories, office files and other recourses for the procurement of goods.
  • Ability to perform routine mathematical computations and tabulations accurately and efficiently as they relate to purchasing.
  • Ability to read, update, and maintain various records and files.
  • Ability to access, operate, and maintain various software applications such as Microsoft Excel, etc.
  • Ability to clearly communicate information both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to operate basic office equipment, e.g., computer terminals, printers, copy machines, telephone systems, facsimile machines.
