Maintenance Technician — Aerospace Manufacturing (CNC / 5-Axis Machine Tools)

AJG Aerospace is a fast-growing aerospace manufacturer with world-class new equipment, seeking a Maintenance Technician to join our team. We're building a team around our 5-axis, Heidenhain-controlled machining centers.

What you'll do:

•          Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and controls-related failures on CNC machine tools ranging from small precision mills to large-format machining centers.

•          Perform mechanical repairs and full rebuilds, including the replacement of linear guides, ball screws, spindles, way covers, and other wear components.

•          Service and troubleshoot 3-axis through 5-axis machines, including rotary/tilt table axes, kinematics setup, and tool center point (TCP) calibration.

•          Work directly with Heidenhain controls (TNC series) for diagnostics, parameter adjustment, PLC troubleshooting, and running verification/calibration cycles.

•          Perform machine leveling, geometry alignment, and squareness/straightness/linear accuracy verification using precision instruments (levels, dial indicators, laser interferometers, ballbar systems such as Renishaw XL-80/QC20).

•          Troubleshoot servo drives, motors, encoders, feedback systems, and spindle drives down to the component level.

•          Read and interpret electrical schematics, hydraulic/pneumatic diagrams, mechanical drawings, and OEM technical manuals.

•          Support and help develop preventive maintenance (PM) schedules and instructions to reduce unplanned downtime.

•          Coordinate with OEMs, outside vendors, and rigging/millwright companies as needed for specialized repairs or moves.

•          Maintain accurate service records, PM logs, and calibration/geometry certification documentation.

•          Respond promptly to machine-down situations with a strong sense of urgency to minimize production impact.

•          Follow all safety protocols, including lockout/tagout (LOTO), rigging safety, and confined space procedures where applicable.

What we're looking for:

Very few candidates will check every box below, especially on 5-axis and Heidenhain-specific experience — and that's okay. If you have solid CNC or industrial machine maintenance fundamentals and the drive to learn, we'd like to hear from you. We're especially interested in technicians ready to make the leap from 3-axis to 5-axis equipment, or from another control platform (Fanuc, Siemens, Allen-Bradley, etc.) to Heidenhain.

Must-have:

•          Hands-on experience maintaining, repairing, and troubleshooting CNC or other industrial machine tools (mills, lathes, machining centers, or comparable precision equipment).

•          Strong working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.

•          Ability to read and interpret blueprints, electrical/hydraulic schematics, and technical service manuals.

•          A troubleshooting mindset and a strong sense of urgency when machines go down.

Preferred (a strong plus, not required):

•          3–5 years of hands-on experience maintaining, repairing, and rebuilding CNC machine tools.

•          Experience with 5-axis CNC equipment — or 3-axis experience with a clear interest in making the leap to 5-axis, rotary/tilt table axes, and TCP calibration.

•          Experience with Heidenhain controls (TNC series) — or experience with Fanuc, Siemens, or other OEM controllers and a willingness to build Heidenhain-specific expertise on the job.

•          Proven ability to diagnose and correct machine geometry issues (leveling, squareness, straightness, positioning accuracy, backlash, servo tuning).

•          Experience with machine rigging, relocation, installation, and re-commissioning.

•          Comfortable using precision alignment and calibration tools (dial indicators, laser interferometers, ballbar systems, levels).
