The Property Accountant will be responsible for supporting a diversified portfolio of residential and commercial properties, ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and timely month-end close. This role supports the full-cycle accounting process and partners closely with Property Management, Investment Management, and leadership teams within the company.
- Supports the property management operations with day-to-day accounting questions, daily processes, and related inquiries.
- Prepare annual financial statements with supporting workpapers.
- Assist in completing month-end close, including journal entries, and various account reconciliations.
- Analyze portfolio performance and provide variance explanations for operational teams.
- Review tenant ledgers, rent rolls, delinquency reports, and commercial tenant billings.
- Assist with preparation and reconciling annual CAM and operating expense escalations for commercial tenants.
- Collaborate with property managers to resolve tenant accounting questions and disputes.
- Partner with property management to develop annual budgets and reforecasts.
- Running and compiling various ad hoc reports as needed.
- Supports other property management accountants and assists with assigned projects as needed.
- Communicate financial information clearly to non-accounting stakeholders.
- Must have a valid Driver's License and reliable transportation
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred (but not required)
- 2+ years of accounting experience is highly preferred
- Experience in the property management industry (residential and/or commercial) is highly preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Programs (e.g., Excel, Word, Outlook, SharePoint)
- Experience with property management/accounting systems (e.g., Yardi, MRI, RealPage, AppFolio) is a plus
- Excellent communication skills and professional presence
- High attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills
- Strong sense of ownership and accountability
