Our Client Strategists act as outsourced Chief Strategy Officers, helping small business owners understand where they want their businesses to go, design the strategy to get there, and execute it alongside them.

Our clients are thoughtful, talented entrepreneurs who care deeply about what they’ve built. Think interior designers who are booked out but not profitable; professional service firms where the principal still holds the most important client relationships; boutique retailers who have built something beautiful but can’t figure out why the numbers aren’t following; or hospitality owners who feel stuck in the day-to-day operations.

They’re passionate and the best at what they do, excellent in their craft, and have a vision for what their business could be. Most come to us generating between $100K and $5M in annual revenue, from solopreneurs to teams of 25. They want to grow in a way that is sustainable, profitable, and worth it.

 You’ve built a credible foundation in business, but you don’t feel finished learning.

You’ve likely spent meaningful time in a startup, high-growth, or quickly scaling organization, working close enough to founders, executives, or senior leaders to experience what it takes to build and evolve a business. You weren’t simply observing that growth; you contributed to it and have an owner’s mentality. You roll up your sleeves, enjoy working across functions, and can make decisions without perfect information.

You’ve moved beyond simply executing what someone else asks and bring a point of view about what should happen and why. Yet you’re open to new ideas, comfortable operating in the “gray,” and coachable.

You probably think of yourself as a business generalist with strong technical chops. You’re interested in how the pieces of a business fit together and comfortable moving between them. You may have particular depth in finance, operations, people, marketing and business development, products and pricing, or strategy, but you don’t want to stay in one lane. You’re comfortable with numbers and financial information, and curious enough to dig into areas you don’t yet know. You enjoy leading others by influence.

You’re in a career stage where your impact matters . You want seasoned, talented teammates who will challenge your thinking, bring expertise different from your own, and expose you to business problems you haven’t encountered before. Given the choice, you’d rather be the worst player on the best team than the best player on the worst team. You’re humble enough to be (kindly) coached without losing confidence and capable enough to have a point of view worth challenging. Though you could work independently, you’re choosing to be part of a team of smart people with shared standards.

What Does a Client Strategist Do?

A Client Strategist builds and serves a wonderfully dynamic portfolio of 15 small business clients whose businesses span different industries and growth stages. Over the course of a year+ engagement, you’ll use the Ellevated Outcomes Framework™ to help each client articulate their optimal growth point, design the strategy to get there, and execute it alongside them.

The work moves constantly between big-picture strategy and practical execution. You might help one CEO clarify their vision and priorities, and another position and price their offers for profitability; connect their value to the right clients; build systems that support scale; structure their team and leadership for growth; or understand the numbers guiding cash flow, profit, and wealth.

You won’t always enter the room as the expert. Your job is to learn quickly, diagnose the real problem, ask excellent questions, form a point of view, and improve the quality of the CEO’s decisions. As your judgment develops, you’ll increasingly help business owners become stronger Small Business CEOs—building better businesses in service of better lives.

What Tends to Make Someone Excellent at This Work

You likely:

• Have a strong business foundation and meaningful technical depth in at least one area.
• Have operated close to senior decision-makers and are comfortable forming and defending a point of view, yet having your view challenged – sometimes accepted and sometimes not.
• Connect different parts of a business rather than seeing them in isolation.
• Are curious about businesses and people and get beneath the presenting problem.
• Communicate complex ideas clearly—in writing, conversation, numbers, and meetings.
• Seek feedback and challenge because you want to get better.
• Stay engaged in ambiguity and take ownership of your workload and tradeoffs.
• Have interests, relationships, communities, and experiences outside work that make you better at it.

Above all, you’ve built enough experience to have a point of view and enough humility and ambition to know how much more there is to learn.

Location & How We Work

This is a remote position, though relationships are fundamental to how we work. Strategists invest in their local communities, spend time in person with clients and centers of influence when useful, and participate in a minimum of two in-person team gatherings in Nashville each year.

Los Angeles is our highest-priority location for this hire, followed by Nashville and Austin. However, location will not outweigh an exceptional fit, and we welcome strong candidates elsewhere in the U.S.
