Skilled LaborerPosition Title: Skilled LaborerDepartment: GroundsPosition Status: Full-time, Hourly Collective BargainingShift: Daylight, Pass Days – Sunday/Monday, 6 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.Essential Job Functions:Assists with work such as carpentry, plumbing, tree removal and planting;Operates complex, off-the-road motorized equipment; Uses a variety of hand and power tools and pumps,Performs routine maintenance on equipment such as power saws, compressors, small motorized equipment, lawn mowers, string trimmers, backpack blowers, etc.;Performs simple construction and installation jobs and prepares accurate reports on work performed as requested or required;Loads and unloads equipment; materials, supplies, trash and other debris;May assist a journey level craftsperson in performing a variety of manual, semi-skilled duties;May drive trucks of less than one ton on a daily basis;Other Functions:May be assigned to provide assistance to gardeners, keepers, laborers, heavy custodians, kitchen attendants and other crafts;Performs all other duties as assigned and directed.Performance Factors:Attendance and Dependability: The employee can be depended on to report to work at the scheduled time and is seldom absent from work. Employee can be depended upon to complete work in a timely, accurate and thorough manner and is conscientious about assignments.Communication and Contact: The employee communicates effectively both verbally and in writing with superiors, colleagues, and individuals inside and outside the Zoological Society.Relationships with Others: The employee works effectively and relates well with others including superiors, colleagues, and individuals inside and outside the Zoological Society. Exhibits a professional manner in dealing with others, and works to maintain constructive working relationships.Provides excellent customer service in the areas of guest relations and park beautification: Answers visitor inquiries or finds someone who can;Is knowledgeable of location of exhibits, restrooms, concessions, rentals, etc.Disposes of litter and waste throughout the park and zoo facilities.Qualifications:High school diploma or equivalent education is required and trade school certification is preferred; three to five years' experience is required, along with a valid PA driver's license;Physical Requirements: This position works primarily outdoors in all type of weather; also required to be available in evenings, weekends and holidays. This position is physical in nature and requires the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and to push, pull, carry, stand, walk, bend, stoop, etc.
