Office of General Counsel The Office of General Counsel provides legal counsel to the Commission on all matters under its jurisdiction and supervises procedural and legal aspects of all cases before the Commission. The office assists in responding to inquiries from the Legislature and represents the Commission before state and federal courts. It provides support in filings with or presentations to federal, state, or local agencies, advises on rule promulgation, attends or conducts rulemaking hearings, reviews procurement contracts, and counsels on personnel, contractual, public records, and other administrative legal matters. Description of Job Duties This Senior Attorney position will work in the Appeals, Rules and Ethics Section of the Office of the General Counsel. The role focuses approximately 60% on administrative rulemaking and 40% on appellate work. A minimum of 5–8 years of combined experience in these areas is ideal. Commission appeals generally occur before the First District Court of Appeal or the Florida Supreme Court. Hiring salary is flexible and competitive, commensurate with experience. Ideal candidates will: Have a career focus on administrative law Have significant experience with Chapter 120, Florida Statutes, especially agency rulemaking Have appellate law experience in the public or private sector or judicial clerkship experience with exposure to administrative appeals Demonstrate excellent research, writing, and analytical skills Have appellate brief writing experience or exposure to appellate briefs (e.g., clerking for a judge) Have oral argument experience or exposure to oral argument (e.g., clerking for a judge) Minimum Qualifications Admission to the Florida Bar and two years of professional experience in the practice of law, legal research, teaching law, or in administrative or judicial meetings.
