Director of Facilities ManagementWe are seeking a Director of Facilities Management who will provide strategic leadership and operational oversight for all facilities management functions supporting the Bloomberg School of Public Health (BSPH), the School of Nursing (SON), and the Berman Institute of Bioethics. This role is responsible for directing facilities operations, financial management, human resources, real estate leases, utilities and energy management, environmental services, and maintenance operations across approximately 1.5 million gross square feet of owned and leased facilities.The Director leads the planning, design, and construction of capital improvement projects in partnership with Johns Hopkins Facilities and Real Estate and ensures facilities support the Schools' teaching, research, and administrative missions.Reporting to the Executive Vice Dean for Finance and Administration, the Director also maintains an accountability relationship with the Senior Vice President for Real Estate, Capital Strategy, and Development for compliance with university-wide policies and initiatives related to facilities, procurement, sustainability, and real estate. The position also maintains a reporting relationship with the Associate Dean for Finance and Administration for the School of Nursing. They will also work closely with Project Design and Construction counterparts in the School and University to ensure coordination of capital projects in terms of strategy during planning and design, logistics during construction, and ongoing maintenance after project completion.Specific Duties & ResponsibilitiesProvide strategic direction and executive oversight for all Facilities Management operations serving BSPH, SON, and the Berman Institute.Lead a multidisciplinary organization of approximately 140 FTEs, including Maintenance, Environmental Services, and Facilities Management Administration.Establish performance expectations, promote accountability, and foster a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and professional development.Ensure high-quality, cost-effective delivery of facilities services while maintaining service standards and operational excellence.Serve as the primary facilities management liaison with school leadership, faculty, administrative departments, university leadership, and external partners.Direct an annual Facilities Management operating budget of approximately $34 million.Oversee administrative operations including budgeting, financial management, payroll, human resources, procurement, and business systems.Ensure effective stewardship of financial resources and alignment with institutional priorities.Maximize utilization of enterprise systems including Maximo, Archibus (JHWorks), Workday, CAD, BIM, PMWeb, Gordian, AIA, and B2Gnow.Ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation of all facilities through oversight of maintenance, environmental services, utilities, and infrastructure.Maintain compliance with Johns Hopkins University policies and all applicable regulatory requirements, including OSHA and MOSHA standards.Develop and implement long- and short-term operational plans to support institutional priorities.Maintain the Schools' high standards for interior finishes, furnishings, design consistency, and overall facility appearance.Oversee all school and departmental real estate leases, representing approximately 145,000 gross square feet and an annual lease portfolio exceeding $5.5 million.Manage space allocation, occupancy planning, and furniture and equipment inventories to optimize utilization of institutional resources.Direct utility operations with an annual budget exceeding $8 million while implementing energy conservation measures to improve efficiency and reduce operating costs.Pursue utility rebate opportunities, including BGE Smart Energy Savers incentives, when appropriate.Collaborate with the University's Office of Sustainability to support greenhouse gas reduction initiatives through energy conservation projects and performance reporting.Coordinate university-wide efforts related to facility condition assessments, utilities planning, and sustainability initiatives.Advise administrative leadership from the respective schools on deferred maintenance, infrastructure investments, renovation priorities, and long-term capital strategies.Present strategic facilities initiatives to senior leadership.Ensure departmental compliance with Johns Hopkins Local and Economic Inclusion initiatives and other institutional goals.Represent the Schools within university committees and professional organizations, fostering collaboration and sharing best practices.Represent the Schools' interests by serving on university committees and working groups, including,Utilities LLC Operations Committee.Office of Institutional Equity (OIE) Access and ADA Facilities Compliance Subcommittee.Environmental Stewardship Committee.Bargaining Unit Directors Committee.Other university and professional committees as assigned.Serve as the Facilities Management subject matter expert for energy conservation and sustainability initiatives while promoting best practices across the institution.Perform other related duties as assigned.Minimum QualificationsBachelor's Degree in related field.Ten years of related experience.Five years of progressively responsible management experience with facilities management and professional staff.Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.Preferred QualificationsStrong human relations and effective communication skills essential.Thorough knowledge of engineering techniques; architectural principles and practices; project and contract administration; local laws and codes governing construction; use of construction materials in buildings; utilities; grounds; alterations and repairs.Knowledge of budget accounting theory and cost accounting required.Experience with research institution or other large facilities operations.Working knowledge of Word, Excel, Project Manager, the Internet and data base principles.Classified Title: Director Facilities Management Job Posting Title (Working Title): Director of Facilities Management (Facilities Management) Role/Level/Range: L/05/LH Starting Salary Range: $130,480 - $228,575 Annually (Commensurate w/exp.)
