About the Job Possess qualities of expertness and dexterity in the pilotage area (inland and ocean) and use careful navigating skills. Exercise reasonable care and maritime skill while performing towing services. Direct and be responsible for the safe operation of vessel, tow, and cargo. Supervise crew members during vessel operating procedures and in demurrage, ensuring company safety and environmental policies are followed. Coordinate and maintain vessel maintenance with the Port Engineer, keeping maintenance records up to date. Maintain the general overall condition and upkeep of the vessel. Be familiar with specific vessel operating procedures and the decision-making for horsepower/tow. Have knowledge of required vessel documentation and ensure proper and valid documentation is carried aboard vessels. Safely direct the company fueling procedures and ensure the safe handling of fuel and other pollutants by the crew. Pursue an aggressive pollution prevention program. Know vessel maintenance procedures, maintain maintenance schedules, and ensure responsible persons are trained and qualified for maintenance. Correct deficiencies identified during maintenance. Proficient in vessel inspection procedures, conduct in‑house inspections, maintain records, and ensure crew members are trained and qualified to perform inspections. Direct crew in preparation of a tow, assembly of the towing rig, inspection, maintenance, and security of the tow during transit. Conduct a fire and boat drill at least weekly, logging the drill entry with date, hour, length, and time. Enforce the company drug and alcohol policy; report any crew member violating the policy. Certifications & Licenses USCG Master of Towing Vessels License (clearly stated on USCG document) Radar Certification STCW TWIC Driver's License First Aid and CPR Barge handling experience a must! Mariner applicants must be fit for duty per United States Coast Guard or International mariner physical fitness requirements. Compensation Salary commensurate with ability and experience.
